joseph's medical center. a former heart doctor mark midei first caught our attention in january when he was sued for putting unnecessary stents into patients. >> the hospital reached a settlement which opens the door to questions about how far back this issue dates. st. joseph medical center has agreed to pay $22 million. it resolved a lawsuit with the hospital -- in return for patient referrals. patients were injured by federal health-care programs. payments were made between 1996- 2006. the hospital will repay money it received from medicaid and medicare to unnecessary stents implanted in 2008 and 2009. those procedures were done by dr. mark midei. he is a former st. joseph doctor and former partner of the mid- atlantic cardiovascular associates. several of his patients joined together to file a lawsuit against him in january. the suit expanded to include more than 100 patients. last month the doctor broke his silence, denying allegations. >> they were treated appropriately and with the highest regard for the
