brian. >> two week-manhunt for shooter suspected of murdering doctor in broad daylight is now over, 62-year-old josephhimself in head in front of home on friday after police officer confronted him. he was wearing a bullet proof vest, backpack and talking about suicide, a second officer arrived at scene and that's when he shot himself in the head with a reinvolver, police believe he was riding back as he shot doctor on july 20th hitting him three times, the doctor who once treated former president george h.w. bush killed while riding back to work as houston methodist hospital. police had been searching for shooter for the last two weeks, on tuesday they searched home and they found boxes of 22 caliber ammunition, the same kind found at house connect's murder scene and they found a detailed file on the doctor, pappas collected personal information about his home and work. police also found a last will and testament left behind by pappas at his home and list of flames, doctors and employees that worked at the hospital though investigators would not call it a hit list, worked as peace officer for more tha

joseph james deangelo. he is the man believed fob responsible for a string of murders and rapes up and down california in the 1970s and '80s. brian johnson from our sister station in fresno has details of the latest charge. >> reporter: investigators at the visalia police department have long believed that whoever burglarized 100 homes in the mid-'70s was also responsible for shooting and killing college of the sequoias journalism professor claude smelling in september of '75. throughout the years they also theorized that this is the same person as the golden state killer. monday chief jason salazar announced joseph deangelo is the sole suspect in the burglaries and snelling murder. deangelo has already been charged with other murders and is in custody in sacramento county. >> we are confident through the information obtained from victims and witnesses through thorough examination of modus operandi in the cases through the development of physical evidence and by linking a firearm that was used in the claude snelling murder that joseph deangelo is the man responsible for these crimes. >> deliangelo was a police officer with the ci

brian is live in our new york city newsroom with the details. >> the dr. practice medicine from with in 40 years. the cardiologist at one point treated president george hw bush. they believe that josephing table more than 20 years ago. two weeks ago the 62-year-old followed the dr. for 25 miles on a bicycle. he rode past the dr. who was biking to work with he shot the dr. three times in broad daylight. the prominent dr. was known as a generous and humble man. he was 65 years old. police find a detailed file in the home and a list of names of employees and doctors at the hospital. they do not believe it was a hit list. >> arthel: talk about how police were able to track the shooter? >> that was thanks to surveillance videos. this video shot from a home caught him fleeing the murder scene on his bicycle. even more pivotal was the video from a metro bus that caught the entire murder as it happened. they showed this to the former colleagues identified him. the neighbors also saw the video and identified him as well. police raided his home on tuesday. they publicly identified him on wednesday. on friday it officer confronted him at home. he was wearing a bullet proof vest one a second off
