blood to see you, and with us here in studio, is the host of fault lines josh rushing, and josh, youhave don't quite a bit of traveling and you some stories to tell, we will get to you in a second, feel free to fully engage here. let me start with you. secretary kerry are said this morning in testimony before the house foreign affairs committee that isil has to be defeated. that it has land and finances that al quaida never did. what is your analysis of the plan being put together? >> i think the plan is a good one. using air support, working with forces on the ground. training reliable proxies are we don't have any, i think the problem with the administration is that it is sending mixed messages about what the goal so. we are hear we are going to degrade the state, and also going to defeat or destroy the islamic state. those are two very different things. the kind of operations are are in line with debraids the state. >> the idea of defeating the islamic state group, isil, in iraq, that is what -- take the work of air strikes will it's french in coordination with the u.s., it is goi

earlier i spoke with william mccants a former senior adviser, and josh rushing host of fault lines. i asked them for the u.s. plans to ask the free syrian army to fight the islamic state group, the asaad government, or both. the united states government is asking these forces to take on the islamic state. of course, these forces will be able in some measure go after the regime as well, because we are not going to be able to control them fully. and this is a rebellion that is able to overthrow -- they have to deal with the islamic state, if they are ever going to have a chance against asaad. but i don't think the two see those goals as mutually exclusive. >> how much concerned is being expressed among the people that you talked to? and the pulls on the syrian sort of aspect of the president's i. s. strategy? >> well, there's a lot of hand reading about the strategy. you have some that still don't want us to be involved. you have some who wanted us to be involve add long time, and don't think this effort is enough. even people that have very settled positions are quite worried about t

josh, the fed said it is in no hurry to change what is going on with rates. are policymakers doing what is right in your view? >> i think so i think they're not rushing for the exits. i think it is appropriate given that while the economy is making progress we're better off than we were a few years ago. and i believe that that progress is likely to continue. we're not where we want to be or need to be. inflation is still running below target and we're still shy of full employment. the fed says they see considerable slack in the labor market and i agree. i don't think there is any great sense of urgency to move quickly or aggressively. >> does the fed's transparency make it easier or harder? >> i think it is pretty clear, the fed is making it clear what they want to do, get the economy back and the stability back. it is good to know. those are sort of the guide posts and they say they will not move until they're much more confident that we'll get there. i think it helps people navigate. it doesn't mean we know for sure what the fed is going to do because as th
