i am josh mcelveen. while election night focused on the white house race and the tug-of-war for kelly ayotte's senate seat, congressman annie kuster became the first democrat to win three consecutive terms in congress, representing new knew that. rep. kuster: the second district has been a republican district for most of my lifetime. when we look into it, you go all the way back to 1853, and a democrat had not won three terms. so i am proud of it. it is a purple district. i always say i bring people together to get things done. josh: did you have a couple of moments of stress election night? rep. kuster: it is just funny though way the town's report. it turns out it was hanover, keene, and nashua that had not reported. so it looked closer than we would have wanted here but right about that time, i got word we would have a healthy win with 15,000 votes. so i did not stress too much. but it was volatile at the top of the ticket. i think that impacted -- you was very close. i am thrilled for maggie hassan a

josh: welcome back, i'm josh mcelveen. jean: i'm jean mackin. a man convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl told a judge today why he thinks he had problems with his lawyer and wants his conviction thrown out. andy? reporter: william degroot says even before trial he considered getting another lawyer, but his try attorney says that degroot never gave any indication that there was a problem. william degroot has served two years of a minimum 20-year sentence for his conviction on young derry girl. he wants his convictions overturned saying his lawyer ted lothsteen, failed to give him a proper defense. degroot has always maintained his innocence. >> i wanted people to believe the truth. >> you wanted people to believe you? >> i wanted people to believe the truth. reporter: during the jury view he moved a bible so it couldn't be seen and was later found in loftsteen said what he did was stupid but said degroot didn't want a mistrial and wanted to proceed. >> he looked me in the eye and said, ted, i have absolute confidence in you and want to g

josh: i'm josh mcelveen. the lawsuit claims the school initially see the boy would be placed on loaf but then changed the punishment. kristen carosa is in concord with more on the story. reporter: the sexual encounter happened in january of this year and several months later student john doe was told he couldn't come back to school and now his mother is suing for damages. according to lawyers jane roe had a sexual en counter in a dorm room. a month later she went to the school's health center and reported what happened. the school notified exeter police and dcyf because the two students were 15 years old. exeter police did not investigate, but a private investigator for the school found that john doe violated the school's misconduct policies. the school says jane roe did not clearly concept, although it's occurred. john doe was put on leave with the possibility he may return in the fall, but then the school says fill licks exeter can take immediate action if necessary. john doe and his mother testified, we'll

josh: mr. lawrence, same question for you. you said you'd fence off the funding for social security. how does it keep it solvent? mr. lawrence: a lot of reasons we have the issue with social security that we do now is because congress spent that money on other things. before weak solvent, the first priority should be to fence off the payroll taxes that we collect for social security and not allow congress to spend it on anything else. then we can start looking at what other issues we can -- what other tools we can use to make social security solvent. i do disagree with my opponent on this issue. that we shouldn't just look at one particular item. unfortunately congress has talked about this for many, many years. but they have failed to do know, the nice to sit up here on the debate stage and say that we're going to solve all these problems. but, no offense, but my opponent has been in congress for four years and she's failed to introduce one piece of legislation to address this critical issue t
