and josh, you see the video that was taken from this crash.it shows holes in the plane's fuselage and we can't independently verify why that happened or what caused it. but if the u.s. believes it was taken down by an anti-aircraft system, how does that comport with the russian excuse that we've heard that this plane hit a flock of birds while it was in the air right. >> it seems to contradict the russian government's assertion. there's actually two russian government assertions in the day since the crash happened. first, that the plane was diverted because of weather, and second, that it hit a flock of birds, neither of which things would cause dozens of shrapnel, like holes in the tail of the plane that was found. so we have to wait for the investigations. there's going to be a few of them. some russia are going to be involved in, some russia won't be involved in. but it seems pretty clear that the russian government has been lying from the start and continues to lie, which of course is what they did the last time they allegedly shot down a

so, josh, i want to play some sound from north carolina governor elect josh stein talking about kash patel. take a listen well, i want somebody who respects the rule of law and his nomination for the fbi does not give me confidence that that's a top priority so we hear a lot of democrats and even some republicans echoing that, that skepticism what do you think the patel appointment would mean for the fbi? could he impact how the bureau press's investigations? >> yeah, the director has great oversight and power as it relates to investigations. and, you know, first, i've been talking with sources inside the fbi, many different people and a lot of them wanted to dispel this myth that some other networks have apparently been reporting and that's, you know, fbi agents are scared or afraid. >> i mean, these are dogged people that put their heads down. they do their work. but what i am hearing is there is grave concern in two respects. the first, you just mentioned their potential impact on investigations in this case, someone like patel, who as sara reported, an extreme trump political loy

josh, talk to us about the bike he was riding. what, if anything, can investigators track from that? >> well, in the city of new york, this is a metropolitan area that is obviously blanketed with surveillance footage. >> and so if you have someone who i totally agree with, andy, the level of sophistication here would possibly include here the mode of transportation inside the city of new york. >> there are also license plate scanners and readers that are throughout the city, which law enforcement can use if they're looking for a particular vehicle and so here what we see is the individual, not using a vehicle, but using a bicycle which obviously provides a more agile means of transportation to move in and around that area and we know he's still at large here. >> so this is not only a sophisticated hit, but this is someone who likely would have been looking into how he actually got to that location in order to cover his tracks. and then some kind of plan on how to get away and i agree totally with andy on that weapon. i mean, you l
