also with us, cnn security correspondent josh campbell an fbi special agent. josh, i'll start there. your reaction to the picture where we see the documents laid out with classified markings. tell us with your trained eye what you see and what concerns you most? >> it one thing to read a court filing the president had classified information at his home and another to see it for ourselves. this was the picture, you can see these documents laid out by the fbi, classified documents. interestingly they have in this photo a box of magazine covers, which i think makes the point a lot of these documents, which are supposed to be kept in a secure storage facility were co-mingled with other items to give you a sense of the documents, we're talking about secret information, we're talking about top secret information, the way the government defines that if something that is secret gets in the hands of someone who should not have it that could cause serious damage to u.s. national security, top secret information we're talking about grave damage to u.s. national security.

joining us now with details, cnn's josh campbell. t these charges entail, exactly. >> well, jim, this is significant. these are the first federal charges in the killing of breonna taylor back in march of 2020 and one the justice department alleges is that two of these officers falsified the affidavit that was used to get the search warrant that officers wanted to go to her home as part of a drug trafficking investigation. a third officer is charged with conspiracy in that incident. i spent a career in law enforcement. i think most people would be surprised to learn the power officers v. they go before a judge. the judge doesn't check every single fact but relies on their integrity as they swear an oath. here the justice department says they violated that oath and falsified the records that were used. the attorney general and other department officials spoke about that earlier today. >> the affidavit falsely claimed that officers had verified that the target of the alleged drug trafficking operation had received packages at ms. taylor'

cnn's josh campbell is tracking this. ened fire inside a safeway grocery store on sunday with this ar-15-style rifle. police later found three molotov cocktails in the shooter's car, along with a sawed-off shotgun. the attack began in the parking lot, police say, with the shooter opening fire, eventually making his way inside. two people were killed, and police say the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. now, authorities have identified the two victims who were killed, 84-year-old glen bennett. he was a customer at the store. a second victim, 66-year-old store employee don is being described by police as a hero for confronting and attempting to disarm the shooter, likely saving countless other lives while sadly, ana, losing his own in the process of protecting others. >> what a hero. what more do we know about the gunman? >> reporter: cnn has identified several online blog postings appearing to belong to this shooter, in which he wrote about his desire to commit acts of violence. one post indicating he was parti

cnn's josh campbell is following this investigation. sh, investigators say at least two of these killings, and potentially all four could be connected. all the victims, again, are muslim. are there other links? >> reporter: well, investigators are focusing on the religion of the victims, the locations where the shootings occurred and, ana, the method of attack. these ambush-style shootings of muslim men have certainly alarmed the muslim community and triggered warnings for mosque goers as police investigate how the shootings might be linked. just to walk you through these horrific events, on november 7th, an afghanistan native muhammed ahmadi was killed. another died. one week ago one was killed in a similar style shooting. and this past friday, a man was killed. he had just become a u.s. citizen last month. hours before he was killed, police say that he was actually attending funerals for two of the other victims. authorities have not come out with any description of the suspect in the killings but they say they are seeking information

. >> cnn security correspondent josh campbell is following all of this. we know some of the -- well, the degree of the top secret documents and others contained in that first batch picked up in january, including some of the very highest levels. how would a damage assessment work here? >> this is important and it's important to note that this is separate from the ongoing doj criminal investigation into those documents at the former president's home. now the u.s. intelligence community, particularly the office of the director of national intelligence, the entity that oversees the 18 components inside the u.s. government that cover intelligence, they have launched this damage assessment. their goal is to try to determine what was in these documents that was located and recovered by the fbi and also what potential harm could there be to u.s. national security if that information was disclosed to people without a need to know, without authorization. our colleague obtained a letter sent from the dni to congress recently. i'll read you part of that letter. she s

we have josh campbell. what more are you learning? >> so we learned that the justice department brought this update to the court today saying they've completed their review of materials and there's a limited set of them that could contain some material that would be covered by attorney-client privilege. doj says their filter team has already begun the process to go through that and to address any potential conflicts. they've laid out previously what this process entails and, again, it's the filter team, not the investigative team, that they would take any possible disputes over attorney-client privilege to the judge. they said in some instances they just won't turn it over to the investigative team or they might turn it over to trump's lawyers, ask them if they want to claim there's some kind of privilege and if there's still a dispute, bring it back to the judge to have them review. this is because trump's lawyers want the special master, the judge initially said she was inclined to possible give that to them. we got this first publi

joining us now is cnn security correspondent josh campbell to talk about this.is raises the picture worth a thousand words applies here. we heard the information from court records about what type of material this is but seeing it there laid out, that's pretty striking. as we look at this photo, you see the red there, the yellow documents, those are what are called cover sheets so you have classified information, you have to protect that information, so you have that kind of cover sheet on top, which is supposed to shield that from people who may not have a need to know. but what is interesting is if you look, it is hard to see from this photo, but we have been zooming around, you look at what is potentially behind these documents, particularly the top secret documents, we're talking about human controlled information, those letters hcs, si, refers to the government's signals intelligence capabilities and tk, which is talent keyhole, a government satellite program. so, again, that's not to say those kind of documents are behind this, but that's what the cover sh

cnn's josh campbell is joining us withwe're learning more abou what is happening behind the scenes ini search of the former president's west palm beach residence. according to the letter to congress from the dni, they are now conducting a damage assessment. i'll read you part of the letter. the dni says the department of justice and her office are working together to facilitate a classification review of relevant materials. odni will lead an intelligence community assessment of the potential risk to national security that would result from the disclosure of the relevant documents. to remind viewers of what was found inside that residence, according to this fbi search warrant affidavit, they found documents pertaining to the u.s. government's control of human source intelligence. i could tell you having worked in intelligence before overseas, doing joint debriefings with cia of sources, when you gather information from someone and put that in a cable and press send, you pray that that information will be titlely controlled and responsibly handled by everyone who touches that document.

cnn's josh campbell is joining us now with more on this. josh, first, i want to ask you about this potential release, and maybe not potential, just sort of when is it going to be released, this surveillance video of the actual search and seizure at mar-a-lago. what would that mean for fbi agents who participated in the legal search? >> well, that's a key point. any other situation fine, release the video. i've done several searches in my fbi days, they're quite boring, you're looking through for items, taking photos, a lot of paper work. the problem here is that the faces of those agents, that being shown to the public, could put them in danger because we already have seen the president and his team come out blasting the fbi and based on my reporting that the two agents who were listed in court documents that were already released, they have faced unprecedented threats being investigated by the fbi. so, again in any other situation, i think it would be fine. here, there has to be a consideration for the security of these agents. >> and more

josh campbell served as a special agent with the fbi. gabby, trump's youngest son, eric, says his father will absolutely release the tapes a t the right time. is the decision to release those surveillance tapes, that footage, as definitive as that? >> alex, no, it's not. what we have learned overnight is that the former president is facing pressure from allies to release those surveillance tapes. we're not even sure if former president donald trump has even seen the footage in full yet. it's been kept so close in his inner circle, primarily to his attorneys, that most of his aides have not seen it. and yet, they are telling him that he could benefit from releasing that surveillance footage. possibly including clips of it in campaign ads, as one person told us. but that has drawn mixed reactions inside the former president's circle. there are some advisers who, of course, think this could benefit him, that giving his supporters a visual of fbi agents on the ground at mar-a-lago would further assist this narrative that he's trying to creat
