talking to many of the democrats, they saw what happened to josh gottheimer. he was given a promise by speaker pelosi. that promise has been broken many times. and it was a promise on something yet to come. so he voted for reconciliation to move forward. and found that was a bad deal. now she's going to the progressives with the exact same thing she promised josh gottheimer and failed at three times. i'm not sure the progressives will buy that maybe in the future they'll get something. maybe in the future they'll have a vote. maybe in the future vote for something today but not knowing what's in it for tomorrow. i think it's hard for them to bring it to the floor. reporter: your senate colleagues have asked for attorney general garland to resign. i'm wondering if that's something you also would ask for? mr. mccarthy: the first thing he needs to do is apologize to the american public and end his investigation on the parents that have a right to go and ask questions. you had the school boards actually rescind their letter. that's what he based his investigation

mariana, josh gottheimer has put out his statement on infrastructure and reconciliation. he said, we must not let a faction of the far left kill an historic infrastructure bill. what's your take on this? >> this is what president biden and the leadership in the house and senate are trying to get an understanding of where everyone's understanding is and trying to ease any tension that exists. you mentioned josh gottheimer calling out these progressives, this far left party as ones who are really trying to hamper these negotiations. progressives themselves saying, well, it's those group of moderates who aren't necessarily coming to the table yet on trying to pass this really big economic proposal. but what we've been seeing so far is biden holding meetings with progressives virtually yesterday and also today with frontliners just like congresswoman slotkin to try and get a sense of what they want and what they need. members like slotkin are very different from this gottheimer group, those who are demanding and hoping the infrastructure bill passes widely. they want to make

that group, of course, is led by josh gottheimer, the cochair of the problem solvers caucus. on the other hand, you have the progressives led by congresswoman pramila jayapals the progressive caucus chair. and she wanted this vote to be paused until the senators can share their top line for this economic bill that they want to pass that would expand the nation's social safety net. things like combatting climate change. paid family and medical leave. expanding the child tax credit. these are priorities for the progressives. but house speaker nancy pelosi ultimately failed to please both sides of these groups yesterday. and as a result, there was no vote. and the deadline was yesterday because there is some funding for highway programs that expires today. that's all up in the air. but take a listen to what these two said yesterday, these two leaders of the different sides of the caucus, moderates and progressives, said yesterday on cnn where they shared where they stood on these issues. >> it doesn't make any sense to tank a key part of the president's agenda on infrastructure
