i thought it was interesting the trump voters, democrats, ted cruz, josh holly, so why don't we talk a little bit about those? >> i think it's important in life to just call it like you see it. no one has a perfect view of the truth and it's become so inelastic in the world of politics that it's incredibly disturbing. so you take the example of jim jordan and the freedom caucus of which i was a part and initially very much opposed to trump but he has now left congress as well and became absolutely subservient to him. that isn't on the issue based on new information or input. it is just [inaudible] i thought it was particularly disturbing with people like meadows or jordan or mulvaney from my home state. i remember he was talking about if it's shutting down the government, then that's what we've got to do because the national debt is a threat to the civilization. we've got to do whatever wet cn do. then he becomes the omb director. i said the obvious, that this budget is a lie and then it completely abandons months later and it's turning off the republican party. i think the conservat

and that's like the gentlemen's version of it which is like the josh holly-ted cruz. it amounts to the same thing which is like the democrats winning isn't legitimate and we don't recognize it. >> exactly. there is this very pointed effort as donald trump is making the claims about he fraud to try to come up with a pace for it. you're right, ted cruz is at the forefropt of that. he first said i'm going to object to the elections in pennsylvania because of the changes by the law. and then ted krooudz came along and amplified a similar claim. saying we need time to review these things. they were trying to come up with a way to both appeal to trump's base and wink at them and say that's right, the election was stolen and then say to their colleagues, by that, i mean that there were legal issues with which i have strong concerns. there is this game that they were playing. it goes all the way down. last night on fox news, you saw someone making the claims that actual lit was stolen because donald trump aesz text messaging system was shut down by these major mobile carriers

senate and the new senior senator from the jury will-- missouri will be josh holly and u2 have diversioncertification of the 2020 election to legislation recently passed by the senate. senator, does this reflect an ideological shift and some of the biggest issues that is good for the gop? >> well, i think that when you look at the future of our party, the future of our party is to focus on the things that we have done well in recent years. obviously, border security, regulatory policy, tax policy would be at the top of that list and once again our friends the democrats are helping americans figure out the difference in us and them, what we were doing in the previous four years with producing great economic results. even the battle against covid produced five major bipartisan bills. i think the way voters reacted just last month in the election in new jersey and virginia show that there is a real resurgence of people rethinking the difference in the two parties and i think the republican party is going to be-- do very well in that discussion in that debate and those elections next year. m

we see all of these people, the josh hollys, the ted cruzes. the people that have to this moment.ople. it's all about the profit and the power. so here you see liz cheney, somebody who's putting it all on the line. putting her career on the line. has earned a primary challenge. has been rebuked by the wyoming state republican party. has earned the em anity of donald trump for what? to say we shouldn't have a dictator in the united states. that the person who wins the election is the person who ought to be the president. i think in the months ahead, we're going to see this clinic in patriotism, in principle, but liz cheney, but also by jamie raskin, chairman thompson and the others. this committee as it's functioning in its early days is going to get to the bottom and lay this out for the american people and liz cheney is just someone who cannot be bought off. obviously cannot be dissuaded from her mission and i agree with her 110% when she defines this as the moral issue of our time. just goes to the heart of the american republic being able to survive as a democracy passed its 25

where with all to take over a republican caucus that has the likes of a ted cruz and you know, josh hollyars ago, so he can handle it. he's been focused on running the senate and he's very good at that. but john thune doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to take that over. it goes to show you again that those people who think that republicans can just move on from donald trump and leave him in the rear view, that's not the case. he's still the head of the republican party. still the driving factor behind the decision making process for a lot of these republicans. that's why they're retiring or deciding they're not going to say anything and just sit back. that's problematic for republicans moving forward because this is not sustainable. and if perception wasn't reality, joe biden wouldn't be in the low 40s. >> tara, first we had mitch mcconnell and his leg, now you've got his soul leaving his body long ago which presumes there was a soul there long ago. the leg still remains. luke and david, not going to ask you to comment on any of that. tara, sticking around. after the break, we'll look
