local time we want to bring in josh letterman following this story for us what is the latest on this search and rescue? >> reporter: well, the suspicion at this point, jessica is that this was a gas explosion now the police and prosecutor's office in paris say it's too early to say that for certain, but a deputy mayor in paris has said on social media that it was a gas explosion and there have been witnesses to the fire who told french tv that they were able to smell a strong gas smell prior to the explosion and we know that paris was the home just back in 2019 to a major gas explosion that killed four people. but, in the meantime, the search and rescue operation has been continuing with investigators overnight using sniffing dogs to try to find anyone who might be still in the building. there are reports in the french media this morning that two people who were brielieved to hv potentially still been in that building now have been found and are counted among the injured. the good news, no reports of fatalities yet, but this is an explosion that took place in a very touristy area of
