her children taken from the father, josh powell. on abbie boudreau is live for us.morning, abbie. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the state dropped a bombshell, accusing josh powell of being involved in his wife's disappearance. overnight, abc news got access to the home where josh powell lived with his two, young sons. inside, we got a glimpse of something prosecutors are focusing on. a noose. >> they found a hangman's noose in the house. >> reporter: it's just one thing that they raised in court on wednesday, arguing that josh powell should not have custody of their two sons, since he may be involved in the disappearance of their mother. >> other parts of this investigation srn certainly leaves you to believe and leaves the state to believe he is responsible for her disappear. the prosecutors laid out reasons they said powell was unfit to care for his 4-year-old and 6-year-old sons. >> the adult brother is schizophrenic. and that he's often naked around the home. certainly not a place for two, young boys. >> i am in their best interest as their father. and i sho

powell. her husband, josh, whose alibi, a midnight winter camping trip with his children, is the only named person of interest by police. but now in a shocking turn, susan's father-in-law steven powell has been arrested following a search of his washington state home. police say thousands of lewd images of women and children as young as 8 were discovered by police on computers and dvds inside steven powell's home. >> there are pictures of girls in showers, on toilets, taking a bath. >> reporter: among that material, police say secretly recorded videos and photos of susan powell allegedly taken by her own father-in-law. >> we also have pictures of susan powell that she probably doesn't know were taken. >> reporter: he shares the home with josh as well as josh and susan's two young sons. since steven powell's arrest the boys have been removed from the house and are in protective custody. powell pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of child pornography. since the investigation began, the story has become more and more disturbing. when we spoke to steven and josh po

it's a place not far from where susan powell's husband, josh, took their two young sons camping overnighteared almost two years ago so police are concentrating on that area. meantime, susan powell's father, chuck cox, is on his way down there. he wants to have a look at the area for himself. it's not sure that police will let him into the actual site where they're doing the digging but he wants to be nearby just in case they find something, so the search is going on at this hour. police say that those dogs have a pretty high accuracy rate, that 98% of the time if they alert on something, they find human remains, and one police officer says he's, he says there's a 50/50 chance they will find the remains belonging to susan powell. alex? >> george is susan's husband, josh, saying anything about all this? >> reporter: no, he has not been commenting on this, and he has stopped cooperating with police. he did issue a statement saying that he hopes this case will be resolved, and that's obviously the hope of everyone. this case of the missing mom has baffled authorities for almost two years now.
