josh shapiro has won statewide office before, is a prominent figure in democrat politics, very managedows how to raise funds, and has set himself up in this race as probably the best the democrats could offer. on the others, state senator doug mastriano, won a very contested republican primary, has the support of pennsylvanians that fall into the populist wing of the maga movement, if you will. while i think it was an impressive win in the primaries, he might not be the best candidate statewide, even in a great cycle for republicans, to match a statewide general election audience, and i think he struggled. he struggled in fundraising to get his message out. he has not been on the air while josh shapiro has been on the air almost since the beginning of the general election, even during the primary in some ways. targeting mastery auto and building an image that he is too extreme for pennsylvania. host: at the time you compiled this, democrat john fetterman had 49% of support. talk about why you think this is a close race versus what you are seeing for republicans in the governor's race?

has done, effectively, in the campaign, he has been contrasting the votes of john fetterman and josh shapiro, both of whom serve on the state board of pardons, where shapiro has voted opposite fetterman over 200 times. and so fetterman is being accused of, you know, voting to release murderers. including one guy who killed another person with garden shears. stabbing him 26 times. and so there's all of these issues that are coming out there, and particularly in the philadelphia market. so it's a big issue. i would say, after inflation and the economy, this is a very big issue. and it shouldn't be minimized. i would argue really since the george floyd murder and the ensuing protest, some of which turned violent, i think the democrats have been in a rather defensive position on the crime issue, since that time. and we're still witnessing that today. >> yep. >> listen, pivotal races there, all eyes will be on your state, charlie dent, thanks so much for speaking to us. really appreciate it. >> thanks, kim. great to be with you. >> an election official in pennsylvania say more than 3400 mail-in b

josh shapiro was way up and fetterman as well.ften the person that wins north hampton county will win. we are looking at disproportionately early voting. >> just to put an underlining, john fetterman, this is early. 59.6%. and shapiro who's running for governor at 64.4%. shapiro running at five percentage point and also when it comes to oz, two different races. ticket splitter. let's find out what this vote is though. >> david, 19% of the vote in the commonwealth of pennsylvania reporting, what is this 19%? >> it is an early vote situation here. so roughly half of what we are seeing in pennsylvania, 49% of that current vote is pre-election early vote. that may be helping boost fetterman to the 600,000 votes right now verses oz's 385,000. we expect at the end of the day for the share of the overall votes that's going to be early vote to be about half that. we think it is going to be 25% of the overall vote at the end of the day. right now as a proportion of the vote. that's what's giving fetterman and shapiro of these larger advant

about the economy, when it came down to vote choice, when they had to choose between a guy like josh shapiroike doug mastriano, didn't believe on any exceptions for rape and incest and the life of a mother, you hear josh shapiro winning by a blowout. it was a nice night for democracy. the thing that kept me up at night was the idea that these governor evers and -- governor and secretary of state races would be swept up in the red wave and people would be certifying elections in 2024 that didn't leave in the original results. but pennsylvania, michigan, they had good nights where the democrats kept out these election deniers. it was a bad night for donald trump and his candidates that he put forward. judy: one of the things we noticed was, there was a lot of money poured into these races. what did you see? how did that make a difference for democrats? guy: if you want to know how candidates think they can win elections, you look at how they spend their money. when you look at how republicans were spending their money online, for example, most of the money they were spending wasn't actually fo
