gavin newsom from california, gretchen whitmer from michigan, wes moore, josh shapiro, these are high profile governors that are looking to be even may more high profile. what do you think about some of these folks possibly stepping in if biden steps out? >> interesting. we do have a new wall street journal story talking about them, going out and politicking, campaigning for president biden, and that's the thing that loyal democrats do, but the article is framed of them -- as if they are trying to position themselves to succeed biden in 2028 and you read it and think what about 2024. it's not absolutely guarantee that joe biden is going to make it all the way, so i think that all of these people that you mentioned, moore and newsom and gretchen whitmer, josh shapiro, think if they go out and are good loyal party operatives, campaigning for the president and something unexpected happens next year and joe biden does not run for president, they will be in a good position to take advantage of that. so, i think they feel any campaigning they do right now will pay off sooner or later. >> an

joining us is pennsylvania's governor josh shapiro. governor, appreciate your time.on the implementation of all this in a minute. one of the primary criticisms we heard yesterday when this was announced from republicans in state legislature was why didn't you go through them? why didn't you go through a legislative process, why move forward on your own? what's your response to that? >> let's be clear about something. i have been very open during my campaign and my time as governor about my belief we should be an automatic voter registration state. we worked on the process. i'm well within my legal authority. and we put out a process that is secure and safe. it goes through our dmv process, which already includes safeguards to ensure that the person registering to vote is eligible to vote. this is an important way to expand voter participation, which i think, in turn, strengthens our democracy. i am firmly on the side of promoting and protecting our democracy. if those want to make it harder for people to vote, they have to account to that. i am well within my legal a

what do you make of what josh shapiro is doing in pennsylvania? democracy to make sure that everyone is able to vote and that if they want to opt out of it, they can, but we have affirmatively brought every voice into the electorate. we have made sure that eligible american citizens are brought into our voter rolls so whenever they decide to exercise their right to vote, they can. that is really the birth rite of american citizens and it only makes sense for our government to be doing everything it can to bring people into our electorate. >> and you know, that, the thing about america and the system of our elections is it literally depends in which state you live in whether you have a full free and fair access to the ballot. you have very different access to your right to vote and the right to be represented if you live in alabama or mississippi than you do if you live in vermont or new york. or california. it's literally a situation in this case, we'll just look at the cases you allhave, your current voting laws that just the ldf is challenging.
