josh stein will join us as our. you have heard a lot about a man named mark robinson the trump endorsed republican candidate for governor north carolina and the gentleman who cnn reported recently described himself years ago as a . he praised hitler and called for the return of slavery in the washington post reported on him praising mein kampf. mark robinson the republican candidate for governor denies all of it but i should note he has said explicitly that he wants to go back to a time when women weren't allowed to vote and he has not denied that because it is on tape. you heard a lot about mark robinson and heard a lot less probably about josh stein but he is the democratic nominee for governor north carolina and the man running against him. he is currently the attorney general of north carolina. running for governor is always a big responsibility but think about what josh stein has on his shoulders. if he doesn't win this governor's race in north carolina, it is not just like a lost opportunity for democrats. if

>> you know, people know that josh stein is a public servant.he state well in the attorney general's office and previously served under governor cooper as the attorney general. he had had and legacy of public service and folks across it know him. he's been campaigning across north carolina this year, making the case to folks we have an opportunity to keep north carolina moving forward versus taking us backwards like a republican governorship would do. and only impacted more by republican super majority like we have right now in the state legislature. so we are doing everything we can this year to break the margins and make sure we are breaking the republican super majority and taking our governor's office away from the republicans. >> and as far as north carolina looks as a whole, democrat josh stein was in the lead in most polls anyway. how has stein got to that lead and is it because robinson was unacceptable to many north carolinians anyway quiet -- anyway? >> we been making sure folks have known who this man is for the last year and a half,

tonight, his democratic opponent in the governor's race state, state attorney general josh stein, releasing this statement, saying, "north carolinians already know mark robinson is completely unfit to be governor." trump's advisers are keenly aware of just how important north carolina is in this election. donald trump did endorse mark robinson back in march, but sources tell me the campaign was planning to put some more distance between robinson and the former president. tonight, in a statement, responding to this news, the trump campaign insists that north carolina is vital to their chances to winning the white house in november, but notably, the trump campaign did not mention mark robinson by name, and tonight, no word if he plans to appear with donald trump at hiss rally in north carolina

2020 where i cooper one and so to donald trump and scoopers, a democrat, very real enthusiasm for josh stein that i saw in-person the day after the debate that was a disaster for president biden at the north carolina fairgrounds, where he held that rally. governor cooper and attorney general stein both appeared before for president biden did, and they were met with uproarious applause. we could not even hear ourselves think in that, in that space during their appearances. then when president biden came out, there were volunteers from the campaign who were almost serving as cheerleaders to try to get people to yell and scream and to sort of meet the enthusiasm that they had had for those down valid, those down-ballot politicians, even just before the president of the united states. so comparing those things mean the biden campaign was optimistic about north carolina because of those diversifying demographics, because of how college educated this state as a whole. is that because harris has seen her poll numbers shifts so much because of that enthusiasm they feel even more optimistic now. but

josh stein was already leading beforehand by ten points. i wouldn't be surprised at that lead expands a little bit. i think the question is, does this race impact this one? and does the scandal impact the presidential race? that's a question i'm not quite sure about what i do know though, is that north carolina is just really, really important for donald trump's chances of winning the white house because this is the chance of winning the election if either kamala harris or donald trump wins in the great state of north carolina. look at this. kamala harris, if she wins north carolina, she has a 95% chance of winning this election, which basically means it's a must win for donald trump, even if trump wins in the tar heel state, look at that, his chance of winning election is 74%, which is pretty good, right? but kamala harris, it's not a must win state for her. it really is for donald trump if he wants to win this election, he has to win in north carolina and then broaden it out from north carolina. how is it looking in the key battleground s

attractive as a candidate for governor, i think you can pretty much count on the democratic candidate josh stein winning the race. the question is whether he brings down donald trump in the state that arguably trump either has to win or nearly has to win in order to get to 270. i think he is going to hurt trump. he is hurting trump because rarely but occasionally, there is something called reverse coattails. it is when a candidate lower down on the ballot and the governor is right below president, become so radioactive that it affects candidates below the radioactive candidate on the ballot but it also affects a candidate above. that candidate also suffers from radiation poisoning to a certain degree. i think we have kind of reached it here, and there are a number of similarities as the others have pointed out, between robinson's problems and trumps problems, so they linked together and could discourage some republican voters from casting a ballot. they just don't want to show up, they don't want to get involved in it. they are turned off by what they have read. at least, the parts they believe,
