joshua: i will take the suffolk model in particular. what happened in the boston and much of new england area is the suffolk bank basically set up a mini central-bank system where individual banks from around new england would put money on deposit at the suffolk bank and this would allow them to be part of a network within the suffolk bank system where there notes could circulate at face value within the system as long as they were a member of the suffolk bank system and the suffolk would operate in order to allow them to come in and move around new england all at face value. the system worked quite well. it starts in the eight teen 20's and goes into the 1850's quite well. it helps new england and a lot of the banks in it whether the economic downturn of the panic of 1837 much better than the rest of the country. but the problem with the suffolk system was it provided a false sense of confidence for the member institutions. a lot of the members feel like because they are members of the suffolk and their banknote, face value notes are b
