i am pleased to welcome joshua zeitz and all of you as well. i want to say at the start that this book, "building the great society: inside lyndon johnson's white house," is a terrific read about lyndon johnson. i had to get through it in short order because i only had the opportunity to do this a few days ago so i went through it and it is worthwhile and many of you remember lyndon johnson, parts of this that will be a little familiar but there's a great deal here, what led you to write this book this time? >> i wrote this book a few years ago and researching it a few years ago, did not anticipate that it would come out a year into a trunk presidency, i don't think anybody foresaw that. least of all trump. we were coming up on the 50anniversary of the great society and we saw a fair amount of reconsideration and revegetation of johnson's legacy which had been badly tarnished by vietnam so it seemed to me the right time to do a reappraisal. many of the men who worked for him had already passed away. some of that first wave of memory had passed
