now the jpa which is the joint powers authority is a board that oversaw the negotiations.weren't going to approve the lease. there were materials they weren't happy with and there were talks they were going to deny the lease. the owner of the a's sent them an e-mail and he said he had authority from major league baseball that if the lease was not agreed upon yesterday, the oakland a's could immediately leaf oakland. the jpa went into closed session and ultimately voted to approve the lease. it was a 6-2 vote. now yesterday, after the vote came through, we had a chance to talk to some of the fans. most of them are excited to see that the a's are going to be staying in oakland for the long-term. >> everybody wants the a's to stay in oakland. they're part of the fabric of the community. they have had such a great history here. >> i guess they're stuck with this stadium for the next 10 years. i thought we were going to get a better stadium, but the a's i love them. no matter where they play, i will follow them. >> i'm embarrassed, it's been way too long and we were excited tha

based on the surveys which were positive, we moved forward and formed a jpa in december of 2012. that jp -- that included the water agency, but it gave us some credibility when we went forward with trying to initiative a power supply contract. we went about it differently than marin did on the power contract. i'll get into that on the next slide, but we started with an rfp in february of 2013. the gpa and the financing for our program was finalized in july of 2013 and that's when the remainder of the city joined our program and we lined up a local bank for finances. service began in may of 2014. getting back to the supply contract, initially we sent out a request to power companies. we gave them our data what what we were expecting as far as power content and they said tell us what you can do. we got 15 or 16 different companies submitted on that rfi. based on the information received in that rfi which also included pricing, but also comments on our power purchase agreement and contractual. we got 12 serious respond ants and what that told me at that time was that power companies

yesterday when the meeting began, there was some talk that the jpa would not approve this lease agreementwere things in there they did not like. at the last minute, the owner of the oakland a's sent an e-mail to the authorities telling him they gotten approval from the major league baseball and that if this lease agreement wasn't agreed upon, the a's could leave. at that point, they went into a closed door session and they came back to vote to approve this 10 year lease. there's still some more aproof that needs to be done. i had a chance to talk to nate yesterday. he's an alameda county supervisor and he talks about some of the details of the new lease deal. >> we're going to get rental payments from 1.75 to about 1.25 over the course of the 10 years. the economics on the deal provides for the a's to pay for a new score board which is $10 million to maintain that score board. >> reporter: now you're talking about the caveat, the real stumbling block is that in this agreement, there is a 2 year out, opt out by the oakland a's that means they can get the joint powers authority 2 years noti
