and fox news political analyst juan williams. so the president had several victories, i think it's fair to say, in this surprisingly busy lame duck session of congress, repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," ratification of start, extension -- a compromise to extent the tax cut and extend unemployment benefits. bill, what do you think it says about president obama's standing going into 2011? >> i think he's not as weak as the media thought he was going to be six weeks ago and he he is not as strong he thinks he thought he'd be judging from the press conference when everybody overinrprets these things. much weaker from two weeks ago. he was coming to argue for liberal america but now he's cutting deals with the republicans to extend the tax rate. he will preside over decline over the spending, some of that spending that they passed in two years and he'll fight to defend obamacare. that is a tough fight. he will succeed in stopping the republican house from removing it, repealing it over the next two years but that remains an open issu

and fox news political analyst juan williams.t's talk about this lame duck session which really has been i think surprisingly -- i don't know if i'll say productive, because you can argue about that. but active and busy and gotten a lot done. let's start with the historic historical repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell," that will allow gays and lesbians to serve in the military. it kept looking like it would die and in the end, there seemed to be too much momentum behind it. >> large democratic majorities and public opinion changed in 17 years. no question about it. i think there are still genuine concerns about integration in the military and a combat forces. that will have to be monitored closely by the defense department and congress over the next year as they try to make it go in a way that doesn't turn our fighting forces -- hurt or fighting forces on the ground. public opinion has changed to "don't ask, don't tell" since 1993. and they react to public opinion. >> they will implement it in a way to cause least disruption. t

and fox news political analyst, juan williams. so, president obama -- we just showed that, but he fired at all sides at the news conference this week, comparing republicans to hostage-takers for insisting if they didn't get the tax cut extension for the wealthy they were going to fight and kill the tax cut extension for the middle class. as we mentioned earlier, he attacked liberals as sanctimonious for criticizing the deal. before the politics, talk about the substance. is the deal good for the ecomy and what about the question to basically adding another $1 trillion to the debt? >> yes, it's good for the economy. some of us argued for a year, keeping the current tax rates where they are is better than allowing them to rise. cut in payroll tax has been something conservatives always thought was one of the best taxes to cut on labor, a tax cut on labor at a time of high unemployment. the estate tax is what jon kyl, the leading senate conservative has been for, the state tax compromise what he has been arguing for, for years. a few
