judge garland is very adamant that won't happen after judge scalia's passing last january. ay. and that's because judge garland is meeting with republican senator mark kirk of illinois. kirk is one of three republican senators who it is said that not only should judge garland get a hearing before the senate judiciary committee, but they would be willing to meet with judge garland and have the photo op and whatnot. kirk is in a very tight race in a blue state of illinois. probably why he's more amenable on this, but it will be interesting to see the pressure that builds from that forces mcconnell to say, hey, you know what? maybe i should at least allow the senate judiciary committee to move forward on judge garland. one last thing, craig, i spoke to people close to mcconnell. he believes that any backlash he would get from the conservative base is much, much worse than op-eds in the "new york times" or the "washington post" saying he's a bad guy. he doesn't want to upset the conservative base. he is someone who has not had a good relationship with the conservative base and t
