i'd like to thank my good friend from missouri, congressman russ carnahan, and congresswoman judy biggert, for their leadership on this issue as co-chairs of the high performance buildings caucus. buildings consume 40% of the energy in the united states. this is more energy than any other sector of the economy. deployment of high performance buildings can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. i recognize the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability in the building sector. on april 28 of this year we held a hearing entitled pushing the efficiency unfortunately, r&d for high-performance buildings. we are -- h.res. 492 creates a better public awareness of high-performance buildings and the need for continued research and development for innovative efficient technologies. i urge all members to support h.res. 492 and reserve the balance of my time. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman reserves the balance of his time. the chair recognizes the gentleman from texas. mr. olson: madam speaker, i rise in support of house resolution 492, supporting the goals and ideals of high-performance bui
