with me now is congresswoman judy chu. this issue of extremism within the military ranks and how to deal with it. what would you like to see the pentagon do? they have done some things now. but it does look like they're in more of, let's get more information. do you think they're doing enough? >> i am anxiously awaiting secretary austin's review of extremism in the ranks. i tell you, those facebook posts that i saw in carol lee's report were chilling and disturbing. i mean, these are the forces that are supposed to be dealing with the most sensitive matters of national security. and yet, 5,000 of these 70,000 members appear to be making the most extreme racist and intolerant comments that are reminiscent of the january 6th trump insurrectionists. as somebody who was there, i still have ptsd from being at the capitol on that day. i know what the consequences are if you don't deal with this. the military has been very, very slow to address this. that's why we need secretary austin. let me just say, i know the military is low

i want to thank and salute our good friend, congresswoman judy chu, as well as chairman nadler and the speaker for their leadership in bringing this to the floor. this bill strengthens the immigration and nationality act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion and restores the separation of powers by limiting overly broad executive actions. president biden's recent executive order overturned donald trump's racist and discriminatory ban. but we need to ensure that that broad xenophobic policys that -- that they are not actually a national security threat which do not ever go into effect again. make no mistake, the no ban act would help ensure that this kind of discrimination, that it ceases, prevents future such discrimination and promotes our nation's core value of religious freedom. the muslim and african bans were an abuse of presidential authority and based off of hateful campaign promises. the ban separated parents from their children and spouses from one another. this bill begins to repair the damage of the past four years. the speaker pro tempore: for what purpose doe
