company called alphabet and a new subsidiary includes search and high-growth youtube business which julia boorstin points out, could now be more important than ever. >> reporter: this move shines a spotlight on youtube, an increasingly important part of google's core business. the division's revenue will not be broken out, investors are applauding this new structure on confident it will provide better insight into the growth and profitability under google's umbrella. >> in the long run, as the advertising-based transcript businesses, surge and youtube begin to slow down, they are going to have different investment characteristics than google. >> reporter: youtube accredited its last quarter for being a huge driver of the company's upside surprise. she didn't reveal financials but says that it's accelerated to the fastest rate in two years of 60% year over year. while youtube's top 100 advertisers are spending 60% more than they did last year. >> they've created a business model there that i think, if you will, has some moral questions to it because they are taking a huge piece of the pie,

julia boorstin has the one key takeaway from disney's quarterlies. >> disney's record quarter comes in two key divisions, marvel helped propel the revenue up 13% and operating income of 15% and the studio did not have to take a writedown on tomorrowland's disappointing results. led by espn, an increase in subscribers and rate increases helped offset lower advertising revenue. espn, along with disney channel and abc family helped outlay broadcast decline. it focused the quarter just a few weeks ago that it is inevitable that disney will eventually sell espn directly to consumers. >> julia, boorstin, thank you. >>> apple fell deeper today into correction territory, shares of the blue tech company fell another 3% on heavy volume. they are now almost off 13% from their highs this year. $100 billion in market value since that peak. it's a fall in the stock price wasn't bad enough, there are also reports that apple's secure operating system are now vulnerable to worms and viruses. jon fortt has more on the rough run. >> reporter: shares down 13% from where they traded a couple of weeks ago,

hi, julia. >> hi, kelly, that's right.lion authorization to the buyback program which is intended to be completed over the next 12 months. also announcing a dividend of 15 cents a share. that's in line with the last dividend. and just looking at 21st century fox's biggest division, which is cable network programming, the company says that the 5% growth it saw in earnings there was driven by the 12% increase in revenue, and that was really led by two factors. strong affiliate revenue growth as well as higher advertising rates. the company saying domestic affiliate revenue increased 17%. and that was led by the sports networks and domestic advertising grew 4%, that was also led by double digit growth at the sports channels. so strength there in cable network programming, even though it did fall just a slight bit smaller, lower than expectations. kelly? >> okay, julia, appreciate it, thank you very much. we are still waiting on tesla's results, meantime, and we will get you around to the other big after hours earnings action.

as julia boorstin reports, this group is also struggling with a potentially even bigger challenge. declining ad revenue. >> as viewers shift their time to netflix, facebook and youtube and other digital content ad dollars are following them. viacom led last week's media decline as it's most focused on millennials who are more likely to stream than watch tv. weak ratings driving ad revenue down 9%. meanwhile fox tv properties like "american idol" drove its tv division's ad revenue down 14%. because traditional tv model struggles to keep up with fast-changing pace. >> one hit this year is another cancellation the next year. and it's very difficult when you think for traditional media companies to kind of make those adjustments accordingly, in lockstep with how the audience and viewership changes. but you can do that to a large extent online. >> television's losses have been youtube's gains. the amount of time watching videos on youtube is up 60% over the last year. advertisers are paying note. the number of advertisers on youtube grew 40% over the last year, with its top advertisers
