abc's julia macfarlane is following this story and, julia, tell us what you're learning. >> reporter: kenneth, janai, good morning. well, the prime minister of ukraine just confirmed there are no survivors. he says the country's embassy in tehran is now trying to clarify the circumstances of the crash. as the world watches the escalating tensions in the middle east, tragedy in tehran. at least 176 people on board a passenger plane died when the ukraine bound boeing aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. the 737 plane left tehran this morning headed to kiev. according to the website flight radar 24, the plane stopped transmitting data at 8,000 feet and crashed just two minutes into the flight. video from moments after the crash show several small fires at the scene. at sunrise emergency crews scoured the debris field. the area covered with twisted metal and large pieces of fuselage in a drainage ditch. the cause of the crash is not immediately known. [ speaking foreign language ] iranian state run news reports the plane had a mechanical issue. this has not been independently verified.
