you heard from julia boorstin, cbs 67 cents, beat the street by a couple of pennies. the street was looking for about $3.9 billion. earlier we had comcast earnings out. that's the majority owner of nbc universal, therefore the parent of cnbc. with disney and newscorp recently reported earnings, we're looking at the media stocks overall, and whether or not you should be looking at them for your portfolio. martin, how about cbs first. the stock when last we showed it, was down. >> right. >> what do you make of what they were reporting here? >> it's interesting. first thing i need to do is refer to my colleague, bill bird, who covers cbs. i haven't seen the full details. clearly we're in an environment where people are hypersensitive about advertising. there's a revenue miss, i think it may be something what people will focus on the trends. i think a lot of the back drop for advertising is the december quarter slowed on television. but it's picking back up in march. so i think it will be interesting to say what they'll say on the call to see if cbs repeats that theme com

we know julia boorstin was given an exclusive behind doors at fact book.arl. the nice folks at facebook invited us inside to have some coffee, use the restroom and give a little tour. about 2,000 of facebook's roughly 3,000 employees are in this building behind me. even though this looks like a pretty corporate building, it used to be owned by sun microsystems, it's actually much funkier inside. there are a lot of exposed concrete floors and walls that are painted with black board material so people can write on them with chalk. people are already starting to filter in. we're seeing a lot of people showing up here as early as 7:00 a.m. this morning. a lot of big buses coming in from san francisco. we do expect both mark zuckerberg and -- if there were to be an s1 filing we could expect them to have a little meeting and talk to the employees about the big news. carl, i have to tell you, this is a pretty cool office. no matter how corporate it looks on the outside, very cool inside with a lot of different lounge areas. they have a lot of different food areas

julia boorstin is on the report for us. >> rupert murdoch made some progress. it settled at least 15 lawsuits that were by phone hacking victims. news corp. certainly hopes that the settlements will minimize the fallout from the scandal. there is one case ready for civil trial that was due to start next week and it's been delayed since end of february. news corp. has settled 54 of 60 lawsuits paying about $8 million to resolve the claims, but more than 50 victims are said to be preparing new suits. we'll have to see if the company says anything more about the hacking scandal on the company's earnings call, which is coming up after the bell today. analysts expect news corp. to report earnings of 34 cents per share, a 17% increase over the year ago quarter on 2% higher revenue of $8.94 billion. for news corp. we're going to be watching for advertising trends, also subscriber revenue at its cable networks which is its biggest division. we could also expect some questions about what news corp. plans to do with its mountain of cash now that it's abandoned its bill f
