julia boorstin has all the details. hey, julia. >> hey, melissa. netflix beating expectations across the top line, bottom line, and also guidance. netflix adding more than 5 million new subscribers, half a million more than anticipated. on the call just now, the company tries to shift focus away from sub numbers, they are talking about the growth of engagement. there is an average of two hours per day watched per membership. and with so much attention on the company's ad business, netflix warning that it is still early days, saying that ads won't be a primary driver of revenue growth in 2025, but noting that their ads plan accounted for over half of signups in ads countries, and that membership on ads plans grew 35% quarter over quarter. they say that the near term challenge around ads and the medium term opportunity is that they are scaling faster than their ability to monetize netflix's growing ad envenn toir. as for expectations of a price hike, they said in their letter to shareholders they are working to improve monetization by refining plans

julia boorstin has the details for us. hi, julia. >> hey, morgan. meta is unveiling new video generative ai tools for advertisers after launching image and text generation earlier this year. now, these new tools including one that can expand and adjust video clips. and now there's another tool that advertisers can use to animate images. what that means they can turn a static image into video using meta's new tools. now meta says that it's following consumers. now, 60% of time spent on both facebook and instagram is video. so, responding to that, they're introducing a new video tab to help people better find that content. they also say they're responding to the demands of advertisers with these new ai tools. meta announcing that more than 1 million advertisers and 15 million ads were created with its generative ai tool in the past month. also saying that ad campaigns made with its generative ai features resulted in a 7.6% higher conversion rate by customers. meta shares up 24% since the company reported most recent earnings at the end of july. those

. >> that's julia boorstin with a good setup for us. part of the reason, liz, money has started to go back into that trade is because yields have been backing up. how much of an impediment do you feel like that is to the market which is obviously adjusting to what could be a higher for longer scenario? >> the big move in yields. i think there was a threshold at 425 in the 10-year. we could explain it because economic data was stronger. then we started to get uncomfortable anything higher than 425 is on the witness stand, prove yourself. is it because supply and demand are out of balance? is it because inflation is coming back? is it because the deficit is large and growing? is it because the debt ceiling is coming? there are a number of things that could be moving treasury yields higher. i think if we start to approach 5%, stocks are going to care a lot more. so far it has not been a problem. to adam's point, i do think you have to own these mag 7 stocks. i think most investors do, whether they want to or not, you own it probably someho

plus steve kovac on two big tech downgrades and julia boorstin on what's putting pressure on shares ofney. your thoughts on this market? >> we have this pile-up of familiar challenges that i think are all right in front of us right now. obviously, the yield move, the repricing of the fed, it's the geopolitical backdrop, the season. as much as the prevailing view is october, you have to expect some choppiness, you have to expect some downside tests. why are you going to put on more risk coming up on the election? as much as you want to fade that because it seems like it's such a consensus view and say the most surprising thing would be if we ripped higher from here, its reerl's really hard to do, oppose that idea that it's too many impediments to going out on a limb and decide to buy this market with both hands. you are seeing still selectativity. it's not a washout entirely. the lows for today were just above the july highs in the s&p. we have been defending this area just below 5700. we haven't made much headway, but so far, kind of keeping in this upper range of the year to date. >>
