joining me now, nbc news correspondent julia jester. julia, president biden's that he is confident the bills going to reach his desk. how is the white house framing this deal, specifically for democrats in congress? >> well alicia, we heard a bit about that in president biden's own words earlier this evening when he touted that this bill will quote, take the threat of catastrophic default off the table and protect our hard-earned and historic economic recovery. and i heard from a member this evening who was on tonight's call between the white house and house democrats that the biden administration really leaned into not only what was in the bill, but what wasn't. they really touted how much they had saved from being included in this bill, what they have protected. for example, not having any changes to medicaid requirements, that was really requirement to the biden administration and a lot of democrats. so expect to see them really saying hey, compromises necessary in order to govern, but we could've had a lot more in the bill. and so, t

nbc news reporter julia jester joins us now. >> reporter: vicky, first a warning that viewers may find this video disturbing. it's important to know we only know the police department's version of what happened before the video recording began. brandon lemagne is dead after the police chief called a highly unusual scene late thursday afternoon. the 38-year-old man had stolen a u-haul from richmond, virginia, about a week ago. an officer alerted to the truck's location and approached the suspected driver in a gas station parking lot about the u-haul. you can see in this video quite a shocking scene. according to police lemagne violently assaulted the officer. he attempted to disarm him, struck the officer in the head, pulled him across the lot into the front driver's seat of his police cruiser and during the struggle, the vehicle reversed into the parking lot of a mcdonald's next door crashing into other empty parked cars along the way. during this chaos the officer radioed for backup telling dispatch the suspect had his firearm.

joining me now, msnbc news correspondent julia jester, -- msnbc senior national political reporter, it is good to see you both. sahil, what's it going to take, in the hours and days ahead to get this bill across the finish line? >> well, alicia, there will be a lot of briefings, a lot of spinning, some arm twisting, some complaining from ideological members, in both parties. the way forward is a very unique coalition, speaker mccarthy wants a large majority of his house republican members to vote for, it propaganda is the freedom caucus that 30 to 40 votes gone he wants about 180 votes. there is enough buy in from his caucus, he's not left holding the bag if the politics go south. on the democratic side, -- and the 51 members of the democratic caucus, you need a lot of them for a bill to get the 60 votes needed to pass their. so, a majority of house republicans, probably a majority if not a super majority of senate democrats, it's not a coalition we've seen before. usually, house republicans, for the most part, including members of mccarthy, will want our very used to voting against an
