julianna goldman has more. >> reporter: federal law enforcement sources tell cbs news the allegations of sexual misconduct involve a male student and date back more than 30 years to when hastert was a teacher and wrestling coach in illinois. prosecutors allege hastert agreed to pay $3.5 million to the former student identified in court documents as "individual a." over a four-year period, hastert withdrew a total of $1.7 million to conceal the alleged abuse. beginning in 2010 hastert made 15 withdrawals of $50,000. when the bank questioned him about it in 2012, he started withdrawing cash in incremes just under $10,000, allegedly to avoid further scrutiny. when the f.b.i. questioned him in 2014 hastert said he was storing cash "because he did not feel safe with the banking system." it was hastert's clean image that led republicans to elect him speaker in 1999, but he lost his gavel when republicans lost control of the house in 2006 in part due to another scandal involving former congressman mark foley who sent sexually explicit messages to house pages. an ethics investigation conclude

here's julianna goldman. >> reporter: cuter-- computer expert kris roberts tweeted on sunday his only interest is to improve aircraft security and according to a search warrant roberts told fbi agents he's exposed dangerous flaws. earlier this year roberts told them he had identified vulnerabilities with in-flight entertainment systems. and on one flight said he successfully commanded the system to cause one of the airplane engines to climb resulting in a lateral or sideways movement of the plane. roberts told the fbi that from 2011 to 2014 he compromised the systems approximately 15 to 20 times by hacking into network connections on in-flight entertainment units under passenger seats. in march he told fox news he's been talking with the federal aviation administration. >> you basically have to understand how computer networks work how avionic systems work and be able to translate and communicate between those systems. >> reporter: the fbi hasn't said that roberts successfully hacked into the controls am but agents did warn him that unauthorized access to those networks is a vie lakes
