a look at new uses for ultra-smart etf's, julie. julie: thank you, vonnie.rticular, new users of these smart beta etf's. talking about various countries that use these in various ways. ,oining me is eric balchunas who looks at etf's for bloomberg intelligence. it is actually foreign governments that you are looking at that use these various smart beta etf's as a way to achieve their goals. let's talk about japan first of all. tell me how they are using these etf's. eric: so this is really fascinating to me because you do not see it in the u.s., but the bank of japan has been buying up etf's for years as a way to do qe. people may not know that they have a little twist on it recently and they basically had a few companies provide to them smart beta etf's to their liking. what they wanted to do is create smart beta etf's that screened xd waited on and wages -- cap and wages. to take they mistake of the qb here that got buybacks and dividends, but didn't get which growth and reward companies. this is one of four etf's that the boj buys on a regular basis. this
