julie? julie: coming up, we have advanced auto parts getting crushed today.out what's behind the speed bump. ♪ scarlet: i'm scarlet fu. earning season is drawing to a close and it's been a dismal day for the retailers. none more so than advanced auto. julie hymen has the story. julie: i do, scarlet. we have the consumer discretionary sector e.t.f. more broadly. the x.l.y. so down more than the broader market. but then the drop is especially stark in the x.r.t., down by 2.4%. it's not just advanced auto. we have steeper declines across a number of retailers. dick storing goods out with a report that was disappointing to analysts. one analyst calling for the death of athleasure. it's dragging down anything including hibbit sports which came out with a poor forecast. buckle is down. that company has yet to report its earnings. express is taking a hit of 6.5%. advanced auto parts its drop is really quite large today. the stock is actually down the most in a single day on record. the company said its comparable salse this pass quarter were flat. that's worse than

julie: at least top five.opean blue-chip companies have made gains as well, so what does that mean for european exporters? is there concern on the horizon? from new york, this is bloomberg. ♪ scarlet: "what'd you miss?" european stocks on friday capped off their worst weekend nine-month. which isn't all that surprising given the gains so far this year. the msci european index hasn't had a correction in more than a year. if you look at the potential catalyst for a stronger pull back, consider the euro. the blue line here is euro dollars, the dollar. the white line is revenue for the stoxx 600 companies. if you look at the far end of the chart, both are currently an upward trends. that yellow channel. that clearly won't last because the stronger euro makes exports less competitive which would at the biggest companies. it's just a matter of how long that takes until we start to see it. switching out u.s. stocks and into european stocks. currency is always a wild card. so, too, perhaps, our tweets from our very ow

in july of 1873, july 14, the final decision between seattle and tacoma was made. tacoma was selected. the terminal city, the choice for the conclusion ofthe line that was set up not only to be an arrival point for goods and travelers but also for the arrival of the telegraph, which meant news and banking and medications that communications. -- communications. the course was a big deal for the far west. the reason tacoma was picked -- there are a multitude of reasons but first of all it's an absolutely perfect harbor. especially for sailing vessels. even today it is an ideal harbor. deepwater harbor, tiedde flats and lots of areas for worse. nearby solid bedrock ground that would carry the weight of freight and railroads. you can bring the railroad right up to the dock and be able to live goods off and on the ships. that was part of it. another reason was that the railroad was built on land grants. the federal government basically divided the whole route into square-mile blocks and surveyed it. the railroad got a checkerboard, every other parcel as payment for buil
