. >> let's go to northern virginia bureau chief julie carey live at the shopping center where it all began. julie? >> reporter: a lot of investigators on the scene at the eastern marketplace plaza where a bold but foiled arm robbery attempt took place about 1:30 this afternoon. it left one of the suspects suffering from serious gunshot wounds. we have pictures of the other suspects being taken into custody. we'll show you those in a while. but it all started in the parking lot of that capital one bank behind me. that's where a dunbar armored truck was parked. the two suspects came um. they were armed, tried to rob the truck, but one of the dunbar drivers return fire. there was an exchange of gunfire, and i think you're seeing some of the video from earlier in this parking lot in order to get away from the gunfire, the dunbar truck drove through the parking lot ended up parking in front of a harris teeter. the two suspects jumped into a red taurus and took off. a lookout was put out for those suspects and several miles away on the fairfax county parkway, a fairfax county officer saw th

mile run drive and the man who assaulted her still on the run. >> northern virginia bureau chief julie carey is there live now. julie, you just spoke to police. >> reporter: the high school back that way, the rec center down the street an area with a lot of pedestrians, both adults and kids. once they hear of this attack they may want to be paying attention to not just what's in front of them but behind them a well. walking along this stretch of sidewalk at 4:15 p.m. a wakefield high school student was sexually assaulted monday in sight of these apartments, a gas station, and a bike path. >> this 17-year-old high school senior is walking home. she was approached from behind and had her butt grabbed. scared and frightened she ran to her residence and called her mother who called police to inform us of the situation. >> reporter: the suspect also fled running away toward the gas station. no witnesses have come forward yet, but police are hoping in this busy area someone might remember seeing the man. this woman who lives in the apartments here tells us she hadn't heard of the attack but it won

our northern virginia bureau chief julie carey joins us live in manassas with the story you will see only on news4. jules? >> reporter: mm-hmm. well, the housekeepers in that hotel got quite a surprise yesterday morning when they went into a room on the fourth floor. someone was there. it was a 2-year-old girl and not a parent in sight. the report of a toddler left behind in a hotel room drew a number of police officers to the value place hotel off i-66 in manassas. a worker from child protective services arrived in this van. only our news4 camera was there as police began to sort things out. >> evidently housekeeping went to a room to do their normal cleaning tasks and discovered a 2-year-old baby girl left in a playpen and no one around. >> reporter: about 30 minutes after police responded to the fourth-floor room, the child's mother showed up. she'd been gone for at least an hour. after police finished questioning her, 24-year-old tia lasharma parker was charged with misdemeanor child neglect. we watch as an officer retrieved something from her car. police say it was a marijuana,

northern virginia bureau chief julie carey was there today as he walked out of jail. julie? >> reporter: daniel rosen posted that $25,000 bail this afternoon in order to get out of the fairfax county adult detention center but there are strings attached to that bond that might make it difficult for him to do his job as a director of counterterrorism programs at the u.s. department of state. daniel rosen was flanked by his attorney and a bail bondsman as he left the fairfax county courthouse. he was silent as i asked questions. mr. rosen, what do you have to say about the -- rosen briefly showed his frustration, holding up paperwork to block the news4 photographer's lens. his attorney instructed him to just walk straight ahead. earlier appearing before a judge, rosen's attorney asked for bond saying his client has been in the area for two decades, has been married for eight years and has strong community ties. his wife was in the courtroom watching. prosecutors wanted the judge to wait until at least monday to set bond. but the judge set it at $25,000. there are also conditio

northern virginia bureau chief julie carey was in court and had the first chance to ask him about the case against him. >> reporter: with the help of his bail bondsman he tried to avoid our camera today. he was released from jail directly into the courthouse but we caught up with him as he left to get into a waiting car. he remained silent as he left the county courthouse. a bail bondsman and his attorney at his side. he was arrested at his d.c. home on tuesday, extradited to fairfax county jail thursday. we picked up the arrest warrant that shows he's charged with computer solicitation of a child. police say rosen was actually communicating with an undercover officer poezing as a girl. rosen declined to answer my questions about the case. mr. rosen, what do you have to say about the charges? he briefly showed his frustration holding up paper to block our lens. earlier before appearing before a judge, rosen's attorney asked for bond saying his client has been in the area two decades, married for eight years and has strong community ties. his wife was in the courtroom watching. prosecu

northern virginia bureau chief julie carey joins us with new information just in from the investigator ss jules? >> reporter: investigators are still on the scene of the shoot-out that took place in this shopping center parking lot today. it was a shoot-out between two suspects and two armored truck security guards. the security guards won that battle but the suspects were captured later thanks in large part to an alert shopper at a nearby grocery store. this is where it began. the parking lot of this capital one bank. a dunbar armored truck was parked here. two suspects approached and opened fire. but the dunbar security guards fired back. >> one of the suspects fired a shot at the dunbar security individuals and the guards returned fire both of them fired, and the suspect was hit several times. >> reporter: the dunbar truck drove across the parking lot to the harris teater to get away from the gunfire. the suspects jumped into a car and fled but an alert shopper inside the grocery store was watching. he got key lookout information. >> saw what was going on saw them run off, was able

live from arlington, julie carey, news4. >>> now to a story we first told you first on 4, we are talking act a system-wide slowdown on metro. the transit agency says the speed restrictions are in place now because of the potential for rails cracking from this cold. our transportation reporter adam tuss first told you about this breaking this story this afternoon on twitter. he's now live outside the station at reagan national. adam? >> reporter: metro says this is a proactive move slowing down trains so things like cracked rails don't happen. let's take a look at the reagan national station. there's a speed restriction about a mile south of here between reagan national and the braddock road station, and yet this could change how long your commute takes. metro technicians ride the rails in a sophisticated machine called the track geometry vehicle. it studies the rails and sends alerts about problems. there's enough concern with some sections of track and the freezing cold that metro's now slowing trains down. metro chief spokesperson dan stessel tells us "you see us putting in speed restr
