good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm ken wayne. eric rasmussen is there with what made this fire so dangerous. >> reporter: look how high the brush has grown, it's this type of fuel that sent flames racing across the hillside, firefighters say. the sounds of flames burning through this dry brush had some people fearing the worse for their home. >> i was sure it was going to burn down. >> reporter: firefighters got the call after 3:00 and crews from five departments rushed in to help. firefighters did not have much time or room to spare, the flames came right up this hill and even took out the backside of this home. >> we got scared, my mom started crying and everything. it was scary. >> reporter: moses and his family were among those on francisca and rinconada court who said they had to evacuate. the type of brush burning in this fire is among the most volatile in the area and we could be in store for a high fire season. they managed to contain the fire to two acres before the flames reached any homes or crossed the highway. but it

good evening i'm heather holmes in for julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. an arson suspect turned herself in. the fires happened on mission avenue. ktvu's deborah villalon is in san raphael tonight with a case that barely had time to cool. deborah? >> reporter: yes, these fires sent heavy smoke over central san raphael and the 101 freeway. take a look at news chopper two. this is san raphael hill which rises behind the historic selkirk mansion right next to downtown. it's public open space and known to attract homeless camps. and the alleged fire bug is one of those campers. >> it was the second fire that i heard the alarms. >> reporter: it was a two alarm fire. >> it was really close to our home. >> reporter: the first was set at this campsite. the second was higher up. and police had a good description of the woman running from the hill. so they were looking already. >> she showed up at the police -- admitted to doing the arson. >> reporter: why? >> at this point we don't know. >> reporter: passed fires on this hill have been accidental usually from house

good evening, everyone, i'm heather holmes in tonight for julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. that 2-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries and was in surgery just a short time ago. the accident happened this afternoon at the family's home in antioch. ktvu's eric rasmussen was at the scene earlier this evening. now he is at childrens' hospital oakland where that little boy is being treated. eric? >> reporter: frank, i just got an update on my phone here from antioch police in about the last 30 minutes. they say that little boy was upstairs watching t.v. leaning in the screen in the window when he fell out. at last check his parents were with him at the emergency room but we now know they were not home when this accident happened. >>> firefighters and paramedics rushed to this home in antioch. a 2-year-old boy was unconscious after falling on to the driveway. >> we were outside and we just heard this scream. >> this next door neighbor told us the boy's parents weren't home at the time. >> i think they are all home alone. so it happened and i think they called a relative to

good evening i'm heather holmes in for julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. an arson suspect turned herself in. the fires happened on mission avenue. ktvu's deborah villalon is in san raphael tonight with a case that barely had time to cool. deborah? >> reporter: yes, these fires sent heavy smoke over central san raphael and the 101 freeway. take a look at news chopper two. this is san raphael hill which rises behind the historic selkirk mansion right next to downtown. it's public open space and known to attract homeless camps. and the alleged fire bug is one of those campers. >> it was the second fire that i heard the alarms. >> reporter: it was a two alarm fire. >> it was really close to our home. >> reporter: the first was set at this campsite. the second was higher up. and police had a good description of the woman running from the hill. so they were looking already. >> she showed up at the police department earlier and commit -- admitted to doing the arson. >> reporter: why? >> at this point we don't know. >> reporter: passed fires on this hill have been

. >> and i'm heather holmes in tonight for julie haener. >>> lock your cars and protect your valuables. there have been 36 break-ins, including one in which a shotgun went missing. amber lee is live in san carlos where police tell her this crime wave has them frustrated. amber? >> reporter: heather, police told us this break-in happened here sometime overnight. victims are making a common mistake such as leaving their window cracked open or leaving their doors unlocked with valuables in plain sight. >> getting into the back of the pick-up and picking up the compressor hose. >> theresa played for surveillance cameras that clearly shows a compressor and a hose from the back of their pick-up truck parked in their driveway. it shows two other young men wearing gloves methodically trying all of the doors to see what else they can steal. >> it is frustrating and upsetting and sad. >> reporter: her husband jerry told us on the same night thieves broke into two other vehicles in their neighborhood. >> and they were literally walking back and forth across the street as if this was a shopping ma
