. >> i am julie haener. we begin with breaking news in the east bay a home is under construction. it was under construction and it caught fire this afternoon. that fire quickly spread. ktvu's tom vacar is live with the latest from the scene. tom? >> reporter: the situation is this, we are in a part of the town called the valley. what happened was this house under construction suddenly caught on fire. the cause is unknown. an investigator is on the way, this house is under construction. that fire went up. if you look to the right, you will see another house, there are two that had their roofs damaged as well as the large oak tree to the right. sustained damage. what happened is, the fire department responded and very quickly brought this blaze under control but the embers were all over the place and as a result they were able to do that. we know two homes have been damaged plus this one. the other homes are on the neighboring street. this happened at 4:22. investigators are on the way and they will know what caused the problem. already some utilities like pg&e on scene trying to do

. >> and i'm julie haener. some call it a tax, others a fee. tonight the controversial bill in sacramento that could add even more to what you pay for gas. ktvu's eric rasmussen is live now in oakland with who's blind it and how it would work, eric. >> like you said this is a bill in sacramento that would give local government a chance to fix roads like this one right here. but some tax groups tell us this is nothing more than another tax they can't afford. fixing bay area roads is not cheap, but some drivers drivers were steamed. >> it's a little steep. >> reporter: when we told them about a plan to raise gas prices to get the funds. it could be a tough sale with prices still hovering at $4. >> the fact that we pay the highest gas prices in the country already means there should be sufficient money to do road maintenance projects. >> if we do nothing, well you get that. what you get is a big pothole. transportation leaders say too many bay area roads are already near the failing point and the money simply isn't there at the state level to cove

. >> and i'm julie haener. new information about that fire that ripped through a corner of two of san francisco's most well known streets. ken wayne is live now in filmore. tell us to the building that housed 26 apartments and two businesses. >> reporter: the corner has been reopened but you can see fire trucks are still arriving at the scene here and firefighters are still inside the building looking for hot spots. they're going to be here all tight long. investigators will return tomorrow morning to try to find out what started this fire. this home video shows the fire at its peak. flames shot out windows and dense black smoke filled the sky. the fire was first reported just after four o 4:00. >> early on we heard explosion noises. not huge explosions but kind of popping noises. there's some type of material in there yet to be determined. >> reporter: the fire started in the upper floor. as you can see from news chopper 2 it quickly spread to the attic and roof prompting the call for a second alarm. >> we wer

. >> and i'm julie haener. in the last half hour we learned that the suspect that has been hiding out in the woods illuding authorities for more than a month opened fire on officers. eric rasmussen has the story. >> reporter: i just walked out of a briefing a little more than an hour ago. at this hour, investigators don't know if he was tracking officers. they say he fired first. aaron vasler had the same kind of assault fire weapon when he started shooting at three members of the special unit from the alameda police department. >> as the team was performing their task they came under fire. from a suspect they could identify was vascler. >> reporter: tom almond said the 35-year-old vascler used a military tactic, flanking the officers. briefly disappears and reappearing on the other side of the officers. >> the investigation is very clear. that there were three acts of attempted murder that -p had today on three peace officer -- that happened today, on three peace officers. >> reporter: this whole community of

good evening, i'm julie haener. >> i'm frank summerville. in one has found a body, but hayward police do have a person of interest under arrest for woman. >> reporter: frank, hayward police are telling us, that security camera video from this kaiser parking garage was a key piece of evidence in the arrest of a murder suspect today. police arrested giselle esteban for murder at her union city home this afternoon. she is a childhood friend of le's, and both attended the same high school. police say le was last seen going to her car in a kaiser garage. >> security camera footage reveals that esteban was present, both before and after michelle's disappearance. >> m i c helle's dna was found on one of the shoes at esteban's home. >> reporter: they do not have a body, cause of death, or a motive. also, esteban once told a news station, she blamed le for breaking up a relationship with a boyfriend. >> our primary concern, was, is, and always will be to find michelle, and bring her home with us. >> reporter: police say esteban may be the only person

. >> and i'm julie haener. jana katsuyama arrived in carson city this afternoon and talked with a man who was inside the restaurant when the gunman started shooting at a group of national guards members. jana-- >> reporter: that's right julie. just minutes ago i talked to the sheriff and got confirmation that a third national guard member has died, a female. that's along with the two male guards men and a female civilian. it all happened over there in that i hop. investigators say tonight the motive is still a mystery. the cay where is broke out at 8:00 in the morning -- the chaos broke out at 8:00 in the morning. the gunman was 32-year-old eduardo sencion who works at a family business in south tahoe. sencion went straight to the back of the i hop and started firing. >> when the gunshots started sounding, at first you couldn't tell what it was. you didn't know how it wasover how it was. then glass shattered. that's when i yelled everybody get down, get down, get down. that's the only words that would come out
