mason: the heat wave across much of the country is breaking record after record. today the national weather service reported the average temperature in oklahoma in july was 89.1 degrees for any month in any state ever. and dallas is on track to set a record this saturday, 43 straight days of triple-digit heat. the education department is changing course on "no child left behind." school districts have long complained about the program's mandated testing. today education secretary arne duncan said some of the testing will be waived for districts that pursue other reforms. at age 28, diana nyad tried but failed to swim from cuba to florida. now 61, she's trying again. nyad set out from near havana last night on the 103 mile swim. her team is using an electrical field to ward off sharks as she attempts to complete the swim without a shark cage. there's not enough room in refugee camps along the somali border. so what happens to those stuck outside? scott pelley returns with that story next.
