joining me now, nbc news congressional correspondent, julie tsirkin. julie, how are members of congress responding tonight? what answers do they hope to get from the pentagon? >> look, they have more questions than answers. i should note, alicia, all of these different rank and file lawmakers from michigan, from us conson, from montana, all of these states that this object has crossed airspace with have been receiving briefings from department of defense officials since overnight last night. i'm told right now, there is a briefing going on with the full michigan delegation, including the governor from the department of defense, because this object downed over lake huron, congressman bergen a republican from michigan said on cnn that lake huron is cold this time of year. they will need special divers to access the optimal object and recover whatever payload it may have. it's not as deep as lake superior. this as officials try to recover these objects. look, other republicans are frustrated at the lack of transparency. congressman rosendale from montana w

with me now is nbc news correspondent julie tsirkin.lie, what can you tell us about this objects shot down in michigan? >> yeah, it's good to be with you. look, the reality is we have more questions than answers. that goes for congressional lawmakers as well up on capitol hill. because, look, we know now that this is at least the fourth object and the u.s. military has shut down in the last eight days, since that first chinese surveillance balloon was spotted. what we do not know is where this object came from. is this the same objects that radars picked up over montana overnight that they were still investigating today? or is it a different one? we know lake huron is on the border pretty much of canada. did this object originate in canadian airspace before coming over over michigan airspace? that we just do not know yet as well. look, as we get into this, it's very clear the u.s. military and intelligence are beefing up their operations here. they spotted multiple objects in the last couple days. something lawmakers are asking is, are

joining me now is nbc news congressional correspondent, julie tsirkin. julie, thank you for being here. take us through how we got to this point and why nbc news is calling for the video to be released to all news agencies? >> well, jonathan, to understand how we got to this point you have to remember this in the context of this congress because this according to my sources also has to do with those concessions that kevin mccarthy made to the far-right members of his party in order to get that speakership gavel nearly a month ago. this now fast forward to monday, we heard from top across in himself that he and his team now have possession of 44,000 hours of capitol security footage. you have to realize that this is every county camera in this complex, of what happened on january six. escape routes, different angles that members, including speaker pelosi and vice president pratt pence were assured out of this building. this is sensitive footage. much of a never viewed before by the public. and this is how tucker carlson framed it on his show on monday. wat

and we go to nbc's julie tsirkin on capitol hill for that. what are you hearing, actually from lawmakers about their concerns over fox news getting this video? >> well, prominent democrats from leader schumer in the senate to leader jeffries in the house are saying that there are legitimate security concerns here, because much of this 44,000 hours of security footage from every camera in this capitol complex in january six was not previously disclosed or available to the public so they are now calling mccarthy's actions incomprehensible in turning this over exclusively to tucker carlson. i should, that we have contacted mccarthy several times to no avail. he made very brief comments to the new york times a couple of days ago saying he quote, promised to turn this over to the american people. but what he did instead was turn it over exclusively. and in carlson's, where it's unfettered access to these tapes to carlson and his team. when you look at how they generate six committee has handled, not only this material but their investigation as a

joining me now is nbc news capitol hill correspondent julie tsirkin, what's going on? >> reporter: we just got a statement a couple of minutes ago from fetterman's chief of staff who says in a statement, quote, last night, senator john fetterman checked himself into walter reid national medical center to receive treatment for clinical depression. i noticed that senator fetterman missed the vote last night. he of course was in the hospital a week ago after feeling lightheaded after a democratic retreat. everyone of course is cautious about his health months after he suffered a near death stroke. of course that could lead to more episodes of seizures and other things that require urgent medical attention, but here it is his mind, his emotional state. here he is saying that he's been feeling depressed. he suffered from bouts of this during his life, his chief says. he met with the capitol physician on monday who urged him to go and check himself in and do some routine tests. at the end of the statement, it says after examining john, the doctors at walter reed told us john
