i'm juliette goodrich. >> i'm sydnie kohara. >> time now 5:30.olice are holding three people they caught after a high-speed chase this morning. sharon chin is in oakland where police are trying to learn if the three are responsible for a series of crimes. good morning to you, sharon. >> reporter: good morning. a couple of minutes ago police investigators took the suspects's car and left the scene t all ended here on east 25th and highland. earlier this morning the car chase ended with three suspects arrested. a police dog with the emeryville police helped nab the third suspect. they were hunting for suspects at a robbery at jean street in santa clara at 1:15 this morning. when the car sped off, officers chased across the bay bridge into san francisco at 1:30 a.m. then the car turned around and drove back across the bridge. into oakland. the chp used a pursuant intervention technique to stop the car. authorities caught the three suspects in a residential neighborhood on east 25th and highland. now investigators are checking to see if they are link

i'm sydnie kohara. >> good morning to you, i'm juliette goodrich. six shootings in three days in oakland. the latest prompted a bizarre string of events just before 2:00 this morning. a man was shot in the head on high street at macarthur boulevard. the car he was driving rolled on a lawn in front of a house. the car hit a gas meter and triggered a leak. 10 people have been evacuated. they are still sheltered in a heated a.c. transit bus. the gas leak has been capped but they are waiting for power to be restored to their homes. the shooting victim is in critical condition. it was the cal state stanislaus think shooting in oakland in three days. on saturday two people were shot to death as they sat in a car on 8th street. >>> also overnight a small fire damages an even base school. a fire broke out at claremont middle school in oakland around 1:30 this morning. the fire started in the wall and ceiling of the gym. no word yet on how much damage it caused. but the fire department says it shouldn't affect kids going to school. >>> 6:31. a proposal to ma

. >> reporter: yeah, juliette.tigation continues the police wondering if there may be more students involved, as well. she lives here in vallejo. she teaches in fairfield. she is an english teacher at high school where she was arrested last evening accused of having sex with one of her students. she is out on bail right now, a $50,000 bond. she is due in court later on this month. now, her name is felecia killings. she is a high school english teacher, 27 years old. she teaches at rodriguez high school in fairfield. the male student was 16 years old at the time. he is now 17. the reason vallejo police are investigating is because the sexual activities are alleged to have taken place here at killings' home in vallejo. she has been a teacher at rodriguez high for five years. officials at the school district say that they are the ones that referred the case to police. killings has been placed on leave while the investigation continues. she spent four hours in jail last night, got out this morning just before 3 a.m. an

. >> reporter: hope you get over that, juliette. that, this decision being prompted by the federal government which wants nearly all of its stimulus money investment in the project to go to the san joaquin valley. now, here's what was decided at a meeting yesterday in sacramento. the first phase of that project would be either a 50-mile segment linking fresno and merced or a 100-mile segment linking fresno and bakersfield. the federal railroad administration says that --it tells the "los angeles times" that there are several reasons for the decision. first it would help the unemployment picture in the san joaquin valley. construction costs are lower in those segments. and there's also more political support. the peninsula assemblyman jerry hill says he sees it as yet another setback for the project. >> the project has been plagued almost weekly with one new troubling disclosure or revelation after another. and all this is doing is undermining the already tarnished public opinion of the project to this point. >> reporter: as envision

i'm sydnie kohara. >> i'm juliette goodrich.6:30. >>> topping our news, jean quan now mayor elect of oakland beating challenger don perata after a complicated ballot counting process. as anne makovec explains from city hall there are signs of a possible legal challenge now. >> reporter: good morning. the election of jean quan here, she is the new mayor-elect in oakland, is interesting for a couple of reasons. number one, it's making history here at city hall but, number two, a lot of questions swirling around about the use of this ranked choice voting. quan beat out former state senator don perata and eight other candidates for the job. perata actually earned more first place votes than anyone else. it was people's second and third choice that launched quan to victory with 51% of the vote. quan will become the city's first woman mayor and first asian-american mayor. she will be sworn in on january 3. but is barring any potential legal challenge by perata's camp. his spokesman says, with over 11,000 more first choice votes than h
