good afternoon, i'm juliette goodrich in for frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. kpix 5's anne makovec joins us live at pier 30 in san francisco where the excitement is brewing. anne. >> reporter: yeah. check out this behemoth here behind me. it's the uss america, the navy's newest ship. it is going to be officially commissioned here on the bay at pier 30 on saturday one of many highlights of fleet week 2014. the roar of the blue angels will rip through the sky as they perform in practice runs today and tomorrow afternoon. full shows will go on saturday and sunday for the first time in two years. >> i hate the word sequestration because that's stopped us from doing something i think is invaluable for the city. >> reporter: the government shutdown grounded the show last year. and while the pomp and circumstance of fleet week brings in hundreds of thousands of excited spectators, this is serious business including disaster drills. >> where you land, where you situate, supplies, where you get it fastest and those are the kinds of things that we're doing on the ground
