back with me is ahmed and juliette kayyem and philip mudd.mayor and police commissioner of new york city saying go out and enjoy, just make sure you are aware of your surroundings but we're going to keep you safe. but in brussels they are telling people to stay off public transportation and out of crowded areas. they are handling this two different ways. >> that is based on the intelligence that brussels is clearly reading right now. this is a very, very draconian response and my guess is that they anticipated something very quickly or a group has gone dark and they are very nervous. it's probably the right thing to do given the climate there and each city is going to be different based on the intelligence that we know at this stage that's occurring in each city and each city is going to be different. we have to recognize this. there will not be one global response to this and there will be surprises. while we try to lower the risk we also have to put cops out in the streets. we have to prepare people for what to do if something bad happens.

threats and security in the united states, with former assistant secretary of homeland security, juliette kayyem. i want you to listen, juliette, first, to what we heard new york city police commissioner bill bratton say about security just yesterday. >> we it rareiterate that whileo not have a credible threat, we have been continually vetting the city and the country as well as washington and we have clear seen, in the events of the last week, the capabilities. so that is why we are continuing to increase our response in terms of visibility. >> obviously, you've got heightened alert in new york city, around the world. you have extensive knowledge in preparedness. and i want to be very careful not to alarm people, because a lot has been made this week of the fact that threats to the united states and to europe are different. even the oceans surrounding the united states do offer a level of protection. how worried should people be? >> they shouldn't be worried or change the way they are, because the reality is is that the united states is consistently getting threats. it is the nature of the -- w

. >> juliette kayyem, we were told initially this may be rein response from our affiliate, originallywere told there were seven, ache, now nine. are there possibly more? >> reporter: absolutely. i think they can't know what the number is yet because as we have been saying this investigation is ongoing. i find it hard to believe the only people involved, i don't think anyone does believe it were the men there that day last friday. they needed a support team to help them fund this train this get the arms. so i would imagine this number will go higher in any event and pick up on this sweep notion. we will see this the next couple of weeks, these investigations, these attempts to break up cells. what we haven't seen yet, what itself new about tonight is of course what sounds like the exchange of arms, gunfire, between police and those they're trying to get, which would then make me think this is actually related to friday unless there is another cell that they didn't know about and they happened upon in this investigation. so this is a unique night in this regard. >> we are just getting i

national security analyst, and former assistant secretary for the department of homeland security juliette kayyemael l wise, author of "isis: inside the army of terror." there are militants apparently going around the country, michael, looking for terrorists, picking them up and presumably going to arrest them and question them. >> this attack was done with three separate teams. it was very coordinated all within the space of about a half hour. that suggests there's actually probably dozens of people involved in some kind of sleeper cell or network scattered throughout france and also in belgium. so a nationwide raid of this sort, this is the least that they could be doing, frankly. >> is this part of a, just the beginning, juliette, based on what you suspect of much wider sweeps going all over the country, not just in a few cities? >> absolutely, and it's not even just france. and let's just begin with the obvious. these sweeps are overinclusive. they are overbroad. where france is right now is the same way the united states was after 9/11 which is we're going to make arrests of suspicion then w
