how did you get involved with the junior league in the first place? what makes someone watching right now get involved and do volunteering? what made you start? >> there are many reasons that women come to the junior league. one is friendship. one is professional networking. one is building your professional leadership skills. and then also having to do good for the community. for me it was a mix of everything. i joined with three of my best girlfriends. we decided that we were not going to be on the same committee so we could spread out, make new friends, we ended up doing a lot of our work together. for me, i actually transitioned by leadership that i learned in the junior league into a staff position as their director. first-ever director. >> how with you? you been around 10 years? >> nine years. i'm the president now. i want to be exposed to things that maybe my personal life and professional life wouldn't have exposed me to. marketing, public speaking. as a cpa i would not have been exposed to it. >> not only the store but you do things throughou

henry lou wois gates junior was arrested last thursday. gates had trouble getting in the front door after a trip to china. a neighbor record two black guys were trying to break into the home. cambridge police responded. that's where the story differs. gates asked for an apology saying the white officer acted inappropriately saying he was a classic example of racial profiling. that officer, james crawley is refusing to apologize saying he followed the book on the arrest. the cambridge police department who dropped the charges tuesday held a news conference saying that they are standing behind sergeant crawley and all the members of that department. this controversy has ignited a controversy around the country with groups like the naacp calling for a change. they agree with gates and say this presents a teachable moment for the country. cambridge police said ey will be putting together an independent panel to review it. john? >> it sparked a lot of controversy. we will stay on top of it. roz, thank you. >>> the lawyer for former director of

obama has jumped into the debate over the controversial arrest of harvard scholar henry louis gates junior. >> the cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. >> reporter: the police showed up at gates' home last week, after two african american men were seen trying to force the front door open. gates was already inside, and angry at the police intrusion. especially after he identified himself. when he demanded the sergeant's badge number, he was arrested. disorderly conduct numbers have now been dropped. >> there is a long history in this country of african americans and latinos, being stopped by law enforcement, disproportionately. that's just a fact. >> reporter: the arresting officer says the president does not have all the facts. >> i support the president of the united states, 110%. i think he's way off base, wading into a local issue. >> reporter: sergeant crowley said he'd follow procedure and insists he'd arrested gateless because gates -- gates because gates became belligerent. >> i acted appropriately. mr.
