justin andrews is live in san francisco. a lot of grounded flights still. >> reporter: grumpy travelers because of the grounded flights, cancellations have been coming in left and right for months. things seem to have gotten worse over the last weeks especially during this holiday traveling period. more than 2600 flights were canceled coast to coast yesterday alone leaving year end travel rush pretty much how it started, chaotic. southwest canceled 429 flights, delta 177, american 160, united 114. bay area airports from the south bay to san francisco saw these round of delays and cancellations too. covid related sick calls continue to hamper airlines but winter storms are also adding to the problem in the northwest and midwest. northeast and midwest. aaa says it could be weeks before airlines get back on track. i checked flightaware.com and it shows almost 2,000 cancellations across u.s. this morning alone. >> we woke up this morning and found out that the flight had been canceled. >> i was nervous especially because i have

in san francisco, justin andrews. kpix five. >> still ahead. and streaming on the bay area. a chilling confession in the gabby case. what the fbi discovered inside a notebook. plus, why the sister of a security guard is blaming facebook for her brother's murder in >> we have new revelations in the gabby potato case. fbi investigators revealed today her fiance, brian laundry, wrote in a notebook that he was responsible for her death. the fbi believes that he wrote it just before taking his own life. the notebook was discovered in october in a florida nature preserve where the remains were discovered. they set out on a road trip in june. but, laundry returned alone in september. potatoes remains were found in wyoming soon after. her death was ruled a homicide. the fbi is now closing its investigation. we are also hearing from a woman suing facebook's current company over the murder of her brother. the fbi says antigovernment extremists shot and killed a federal officer in oakland in 2020. his sister told cbs mornings anchor tony he would still be alive if not for facebook. >>
