and justin andrews was in the east bay. let's check in with darren peck for this latest system that is still moving through. >> take a look what is behind shawn and justin. isprobably about 1500. justin is at about 1800 feet. we use our analysis to see how the snow has behaved. we pull in our example from mount diablo. for example, the top is certainly high enough to 1800 feet. that is no surprise. but we have seen snow get as low as 1000 feet. it just does not stick. maybe you get a mix of hail and sleet. what we are seeing today in terms of the snow sticking around, that is right about here at 1600 or 1700 or maybe even 1500 feet. that is as far as it has gone today. when you look at first alert doppler, you see plenty of scattered showers bay-wide. this does require quite a variety. it is more on-again, off-again showers and they are lighter. we have some breaks. it might be cold enough to snow right now. obviously, you get a much needed break on highway 17, which is closed down right now. we will hear more from shawn chi

if you put the actual liberator on there, you can see light showers but justin andrew was sitting in direct sunlight. tohe valleyrs are the ead 0. e ttsoshowers from that and there is still snow being read by this in the north bay mountains and this is one of the areas where we have had more consistency in terms of steady enough, cold temperature quite low in the north bay at times, even down to 500 feet. some of the communities through mendocino and lake county have seen snow. if we watch the future cast, it is still with us all the way into tomorrow morning. this is going to quickly lighten. we have to get through tomorrow morning. this is light showers coming through in the morning hours of saturday them by saturday afternoon, we are done with the system and then the next system gets here. going to jump ahead because i want you to see the big picture on the future cast as we clear out this storm. that when is gone and then by the time we get into sunday, the next one comes and. the total different system. this is sunday right in the middle of the day. we are going to pick up rain

justin andrews is following the story.ng a lot of questions about what's going on. >> reporter: this firing has forced a major shake up at police headquarters. the question is for mayor thao who placed him on paid leave. people are asking why. this decision was the mayor's biggest most controversial yet. the mayor sided an investigation to support her decision where she says she was troubled by the chief's comments. since january 19 when armstrong was placed on administrative leave, he has been fighting to be reinstated. back to the investigation mayor thao cited is connected to handling of a case where an officer is accused of hit and run and firing his service weapon in the elevator at headquarters. the chief admits he didn't read the entire report and tells us it is common among chiefs and tells us he decided not to fire the officer. this is what he said after the firing. he wrote, quote, i am deeply disappointed in the mayor's desis after relevant facts are fully evaluated by weighing the evidence instead of sound bite

justin andrews is in the east bay hills showing us what's going on there.will start with darren peck on this first alert weather day, a lot to get to because it's a lot of moving parts in the system. >> justin andrews is at 1800 feet. 1800 feet, he has confirmed snow in the east hills. it is not much lower than that. to gain a little perspective, where is the snow falling exactly? an overview on what accumulations could look like when this is all said and done, we have more than enough snow in the mountains. they closed highway 17. but mt. diablo, we showed you pictures of that just about a minute ago. in our overview, mt. diablo is very high. the top of mount diablo sits at 3800 feet. now, we have already seen snow this morning getting down to 1500 feet. it was cold enough at times. maybe you got a mix near 1000 feet, 30, flurries and sleet, but we want to talk about snowfall accumulating. we are looking at this elevation here. right around the 1800 or 1900 foot level, not only on mt. diablo but where it matters the most. we start to get into important par
