this drama comes at the same time that a new report has emerged about the lieutenant governor justin fairfaxho would take over were northam were to resign. the accusation comes from a woman who accuses the lieutenant governor of sexual assault while they were at the democratic convention in 2004. fairfax vehemently denies this ever took place and he called an impromptu press conference yesterday to clear his name. take a listen. >> you now have something that was 15 years ago and yet you don't have a shred of evidence. it was first posed a year ago. it went to the "washington post" and "washington post" made the decision not to run the story because it is uncorroborated and false. you just go away until you find another opportunity to get back in the media. >> reporter: there is no doubt that the new allegations complicate the situation here in richmond. there is a lot of uncertainty about what the next week could bring. and for now we know ralph northam has no plans to resign and that justin fairfax is not going to back down as these accusations are leveled against him. boris and christine.

brings us to the democrat who would take over if governor northam would resign, that would be justin fairfax. if governor northam resigns, it would be governor fairfax that would serve out his term and be eligible to run for a full term in 2021. there is only two african american governors in the history of the united states. if ralph northam resigns, justin forfax would become the third. that fact in the potential history to be made cannot be helpful to northam's bid to hang on. the naacp, tim scott of south carolina condemned the photo and said the people of virginia will make their voices heard. meanwhile, amid the calls for northa m's resignation over a photo in his medical school yearbook since the governor apologized in print and then video without saying which of the two people he was, a yearbook from his college years at the virginia military institute has also hit the en r internet showing what appears to be two nicknames under his real nail. we reached out to the governor for comment and have not heard back. like i said, lots and lots and lots of rolling developdevelopm. joining us

howie: justin fairfax is being urged to resign. there is no statute of limitations in virginia where the alleged attack took place. but many journalists with a few exceptions are saying we don't know what happened. far different than the kavanaugh case. mo: a lot of the folks i have seen with the black face with northam and the allegations against fairfax. it's interesting to see the unanimity on folks calling for their resignations or at least positing that the situation might be untenable. with the second allegation with fairfax, that's when the dam sort of broke. what's interesting to me -- i came up through virginia politics, i worked there for about a dozen years. i called on both gentlemen to step down. what is interesting is the disconnect between all of us, the pundit class, the media class, and voters. the washington pole shows voters -- "the washington post" poll shows 60% of black virginians urging the governor to remain. to me that's a fascinating disconnect on how we are talking about it. howie: the lieutenant governor
