four confederate statues removed overnight by the city. >> justin finch joins us live. what about the statues that came down faster following events in charlottesville? >> reporter: eun, good morning. this has been in the works for some time. behind this what was a pedestal for the confederate generals. it is full of graffiti, opposed to the confederacy, black lives matter skroeld there, and a look at the disrespect this monument has been feeling for quite some time here. it is one of four taken down in baltimore overnight. take a look at video from the news partners at wbal before 4:00 a.m., the statues of generals robert e. lee and stonewall jackson were removed from here. this is through efforts of a dozen city and private crews. comes as baltimore city council voted to remove confederate monuments here back on monday, and yes, they were prompted in part by violence in charlottesville. we know three other monuments in the area have come down, confederate women's memorial in bishop square park on mount royal avenue, and one of supreme court justice taney who authored t

news4 justin finch has an update on the investigation. what's the latest?>> reporter: as you mention, traffic has reopened out here. meantime, prince george's county police are working to determine the cause of the fatal crash that involved a motorcyclist and car. let's take you to the scene just after midnight. prince george's county police were on scene of this motorcyclist that died on indian head highway after apparently they say rear ending a vehicle. that broken bike was towed away. the vehicle driver was also treated for nonlife threatening injuries, and northbound indian head highway traffic was moved onto palmer road for hours out here as the prince george's county police department continued to carry out their crash investigation. as you see, traffic is now live, moving smoothly on scene effected for some time by the effects of the crash. again at this moment, police haven't identified the driver of that motorcycle who died here overnight. we are live from fort washington, justin finch, news4, back to you. >> thank you. >>> more breaking news now.

justin finch is live on the scene. justin, we've been talking about this statue. tell us what's going on here. >> hey there, eun. good morning. it was taken down some hours ago. police were here in case the removal of that tawny statue caused reactions. now with the statue gone, the question now is what will replace it. close to 2:00 this morning, crews came in and picked up and hauled the statue away. it was here on the statehouse grounds for more than 100 years. roger b. tawny himself, a controversial figure and maryland native. he decision. the decision was going to uphold slavery and also said that people like scott, african-americans were not due the rights of citizens. it is a decision that has linked him to confederate ideals for years. the statehouse trust oversees these grounds. they voted via e-mail to remove that statue. the tawny statue, again, stood here since 1872. the next stop based upon reports here is into storage. now, governor larry hogan did call for the removal of the tawny statue in the wake of the violence in charlottesville. again, as for

justin finch is live there with what's next for these people. justin, good morning. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. as you might imagine, a hard day for close to 100 renters for many living here, these are their final hours in their homes. neighbors yesterday were understandably upset, told they had just 24 hours to leave their homes, this after prince george's county fire department held surveys going into both buildings floor by floor, finding they did not comply with 14 of 23 fire code violations. these include broken fire alarms, nonworking fire doors, and last friday, you may recall fire officials were out here posting violation notices and giving the complex until yesterday morning to comply. we can tell you in between that contractors and neighbors here tried to pull together to comply with violations, but in the end they did not make it. county social services will be out here today helping to assist in finding temporary housing. red cross as well. the neighbors are telling us that would only give them about seven days of temporary who

justin finch joins us live now on this drastic decision that's affecting many of you. hi, justin. >> reporter: angie, good morning. of course moms to be know when a baby is coming every second counts. so if you live in the area of southeast, and planning on having your baby at umc, you will likely now have to change your plans. this comes after d.c.'s health department rolled out a three-month suspension of newborn deliverie services at united medical center. it could be called off before the 90 days, but that's only if the health department sees umc making significant improvements to those procedures here. of course for most here in southeast, this comes as a big surprise. >> that's not good. because you have a lot of unfortunate people around here that really can't afford to go anywhere else. and it's really not fair. >> reporter: and ward 8 a and c commissioner calling for more details about the suspension and what can be done to left it sooner. also committee chair vincent gray asking for more information. umc has given no comment yet about the suspension. >> we'll

justin finch joins us on facebook live a few minutes ago. he's outside the takoma station in washington, d.c. what's going on now, justin? >> hey, chris, as you might see stepped-up police at metro stations today. they actively search for these three young men. metro transit police are hoping that someone out there recognizes any one of these three young men. after gunfire sunday, they got off the train, crossed the platform to another train and fled. there is no word yet on just what sparked that shooting. that was likely part of the probe that followed the shooting. the train car stopped on the track as investigators collect the clues. what we know so far, someone shot that teen boy close to 3:00 p.m. sunday by the silver string and takoma stops. bear in mind that happened as the train pulled into the takoma station. riders say they will definitely be more alert. >> i've never had issues with safety on the train. i'm an early rider, i'm not a late concerns that i've been made aware of, it's about late riders. >> reporter: now, we do know th

we begin with justin finch live at glasgow middle school in fairfax county with more on why the first day is going to be really different than others for these kids. justin, good morning. >> reporter: hey there, aaron. good morning. as students make their way to bus stops this morning, they're making their way to the middle school. we're talking about teachers and s will fill up. we're here at student drop-off. things are a bit different. school starting sooner than use after fairfax county public schools got a waver to start school earlier this year after years of dipping into their snow day supplies. so pretty soon, some 1630 bus also make their way across the county to get kids to classes today after a series of round the clock inspections and repairs happened last week. this bus in fairfax county public schools, the second largest after new york city. a lot of work to be done. in fairfax today, 189,000 students making their way back to class today. classes are beginning between 7:10 and 8:30 this morning. the word for drivers is to be alert as you make your way on to the road toda

news 4's justin finch is live with what we've learned. justin? >> reporter: aaron, good morning.it turns out timing may have played a role. a reporter was working a story that would have outed his kkk past. but in his essay out this week, he says that he was moved to share his own story after the violence in charlottesville. father william aitcheson is on leave from his duties at st. leo the great -- off old lehigh this all comes to light as his kkk past has come to light here as well. we're also hearing this week from two of his victims. philip and barbara butler who say they found one of aitcheson's burning crosses on their college park lawn. almost 40 years ago. the memory still haunts them, four decades later. >> of what's going on. your family, you know. i can't say that i was mad or i was afraid. all of it was involved. >> reporter: the butlers say they are still waiting aitcheson to pay them the court ordered $23,000 in damages. they also say if he is truly sorry, he will more than likely out the rest of his that cross burning or in the other cases that he acted alone. bac

news 4 justin finch has details from the scene. >> reporter: we just spoke with police officials a short time ago. they tell us they are still not sure exactly what led to that man falling over that bridge, however, their investigation did tie up that area for hours. we're talking about the area of the 11 street bridge and northbound i-295 ramp close call of a man down over that bridge. they responded to that scene. shutting down traffic in the meantime to carry out their investigation. that did result in some westbound lanes of 695 being closed, as well as that ramp onto the bridge here but police, again, saying at this point it remains unclear if the man was pushed or fell or the victim of a crime. at this point, it will be in the hands of medical examiner who will collect that man's remains and determine the cause of death. in southeast, i'm justin finch, news 4, back into you in the studio. >>> time for a check on the midday forecast. what we need to know heading into the lunch hour. the clouds and rain, actually saw the sun this morning. >> yes, today is much nicer. we don't have to

. >> news 4's justin finch is live in charles county with what parents need to know about all of this, this morning. justin, good morning. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. investigators are saying that benjamin stoddard middle school was the back stop for some of that alleged abuse. officials identified at least 24 young victims but they're still looking for at least 11 state's attorney as this investigation is not yet over. now take a look. as you mentioned here, we have charges, word of charges being filed against carlos bell. 119 charges filed. as many as 24 victims counted. this child porn probe. he's reportedly hiv positive and was a track coach and charles county aide. he's accused of recording himself on cell phones sexually assaulting middle school age boys and giving those boys marijuana as well. we now know that this abuse spanned more than two years. >> where was this taking place at that none of the teachers or staff or anybody that worked there said anything or did anything? >> we still need help from the public. we still need people who know something about this case to
