jackie sissel is taking a look at justin herman plaza there are still police out there. >>jackie: they have not reopened the plaza. this is video-shot about 10 minutes ago. you can see workers from the department of public works out here, about a dozen of them out here steam cleaning and cleaning up the remaining to breathe. they happen out here since about 3:00 a.m.. there was a lot of debris and a half dozen or so large garbage trucks that were brought out and get the debris and personal belongings out of the plaza. according to the police chief this was a public health hazard. they say it will take a while to make sure everything is clean up properly. there is still a large police presence out here. it has been relatively quiet for a while to. protesters remain in the plaza but they have not engaged with or attempted to cross police lines. a lot of protesters keep asking what happened to their personal belongings. it is unclear. i can tell you whenever cleaning out the plaza it looked like they were taking suitcases and personal belongings and setting them off to one s

top stories: hundreds of san francisco police have now dismantled the occupy encampment at justin herman plazais in full cleanup mode. >> reporter: after almost two months, there is almost no sign of the occupy san francisco encampment at justin herman plaza. that's two months and failed negotiations between protesters and the city to move the encampment to a vacant school in the mission district. some protesters reman on the plaza as you can see as do police officers. they are still guarding the plaza as the department of public works crews continue to cleanup. they are pretty close to done just power washing at this point. around 1:00 this morning police moved in. they announced that they were there, gave campers a i've minute warning to clear out. they said anyone left behind would be arrested. they moved in, they did break down the tents, approximately 100, in the end some 50 people were arrested, at least 50 's the last number we heard this morning. the -- police chief tells us half the protesters did leave peacefully. two police officers were assaulted, according to the chief. they were

i will give you a look at what justin herman plaza looks like right now. what was the occupy sf encampment is nearly gone. you can see police officers garden the perimeter of the plaza to make sure no one gets inside. public work crews go in and toss out all the items. we were told by the chief a short time ago 50 people arrested in this raid that happened overnight. the chief also says two of his officers were assaulted with metal chairs. protestors he says threw metal chairs after two officers. those officers were not seriously hurt. the chief says overall he believes this operation went well over night. he talked with us about how negotiations broke down between the city and occupy sf protestors. that forced this action overnight. >> the mayor has been really thought fly and patiently negotiating with occupy leadership. and as of about yesterday, director newrue was getting no returned e-mails. department heads went over and looked at the site in the mission it appeared all communication had broken off. and after the aggressive attack on the officers and

anne makovec is at justin herman plaza with what's next for protestors and the city.ood morning. >> reporter: a deep divide here in the "occupy sf" camp. some are ready to moved. some have moved out already. the majority of campers are here at justin herman plaza after police advanced on the camp last night. here's the scene at 5 p.m. when police began encircling the camp with these barricades and some demonstrators shoved the barricades back. police were trying to create a safety zone and clear the sidewalks. >> they wanted confrontation. our mission down here was to create a safety zone. when the officers were attacked, it does give us a sense of how violent the people who remain in the camp are. >> reporter: and then proceeds walked to the federal reserve building and sat down in the middle of market street. they stayed for a little over an hour and then came back to camp and held a general assembly meeting and tried to take a vote on whether or not the group should move to the mission street location. they could not come to a consensus because they need a 100% vot

terry mcsweeney is live at justin herman plaza what is happening now? >> reporter: right now we seem to have a disagreement between some members of occupy san francisco and some of the street artists, they set up tables, sell their jewelry, sell whatever they've got. they pay a fee to be down here. a few minutes ago the artists started setting up and some people from occupy san francisco came over and said it is time for to you get out of here you are not part of the 99%. there was some argument, police moved over one of the people arguing with the street artists just heard her saying that in fact she was being threatened with being arrested for disturbing peace. she is going to be quiet. things have calmed somewhat. police still on scene. let's bring in one of the street artists who has been selling down here for 13 years. hasn't been here for the past three months, his name is mike. you sell jewelry, your sigh of the coin as far as being a street artist. >> our side of it is, we agree with the 99% movement. but until they go to washington and camp on

a short time ago cleanup crews arrived at justin herman plaza.e wong has been out there all morning and is back to el tell is what's going on -- back to tell us what's going on -- the san francisco police department -- protesters were reluctant to leave but they did without any issues. a short time later, the crews arrived to begin their work. police say they will continue to keep this area clear the area down the way, it's getting pretty crowded. tear were 10 people there. now there's about 60. >> at this point, i don't have any information about the federal reserve bank. tents, not allowed, no matter what. people tried to put them up and then they had to take them down. the park here is technically closed. no word on when it will be technically back open. as far as gathering here, sfpd says -- if someone says they are coming down here to exercise their freedom of speech, they will try to make allowances to allow people to do that. if you are -- if you are coming down here to sit an sleep, that's where they will have issues. strong presence down
