the dogs, cats made a trek to get there, justin udo from our sister station kyw news radio tells busheir licensing journey to get almost home. >> we're in operation breathing room more than 200 cats and dogs were rescued from puerto rico, 56 were brought to the brandywine spca in west chester county. >> over population problem in puerto rico is at a crisis level. only 8 percent come out of the shelters alive. there is a massive stray problem with over 300,000 stray dogs on the streets. >> reporter: rescue mission went into action last week when animals were flown from san juan, puerto rico to fort lauderdale, florida. in florida they were met by a groove of volunteers who made sure every animal made it to the shelter safe ape sound. >> it was a very, very long trip from our team drove up thee coast. >> reporter: linda with the brandywine spca said they are more than happy to open up their doors for cats and dogs who made the long trek. >> when we have extra space we want to help where ever we can these animal would have never had a chance for family without us. this is why we do this
