[applause] >> you know, really i came -- for me it's all -- for mow how i came to this issue was just my personal experiences. know that mental illness does not discriminate. it certainly has impacted my own family. but i understand that poverty does, and i think anybody who was been in the criminal justice system or jail you mostly see poor people and people of color, and miriam, what you said earlier, without -- i kept saying to myself, why are we doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? and when i was state attorney in georgia, now the state attorney in the room, doing great job, is here with lieutenant from the burlington police department, but when i was state attorney -- i grew up in a community and went to public schools and i'd see these folks who i knew, who i grew up with or new their families -- knew their families, and they're good people. they were good people.
