i've heard drew brees, colin kaepernick. what do you think here? >> i think the most likely scenario as far as those names you mentioned would be baker mayfield. he was released by the carolina panthers on monday. the 49ers are discussing whether to put in a waiver claim for him. they're far down the list, 24 or 25 in the pecking order. so i know the feeling within the organization is that probably there will be multiple claims. another team would probably get him before the 49ers have that opportunity. but i think it's still being discussed whether the 49ers want to go down that route because there's a lot of baggage with baker mayfield. but he's a talented guy. he was the number one overall pick in 2018. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. the 49ers would have to invest nothing in him. if he's a bad locker room guy or whatever the case may be, they can get rid of him. i think there's something they're certainly talking even at this late hour. the waiver claim has to be in by 1:00 p.m. on tuesday. so we'll see what happens. >> brock purdy
