i want to bring in kailey leinz out of d.c. this is an interesting one. explain the story to me. is interesting, ed, because instagram and threads, the two platforms, announced of these changes were coming in february, essentially saying they were no longer going to be proactively recommending political content. they said that if you decide to follow accounts that post political content, they don't want to get between you and your posts but they don't want to promote content from accounts you don't follow. so now it is the default setting that you won't see the political material unless you select to. in response some have said maybe this is a way to reduce misinformation or inflammatory content being circulated in an election year, but others are saying it could limit political discourse in an election year. there is concern about how the companies are defining political content. what exactly that means, how they are categorizing it. in the same blog post instagram said it could be related to things like laws, elections, or social topics. obviously that is pretty broad basket. in

joining us on the ground is kailey leinz. we have had operational updates on what's happening with the recovery and search and rescue effort. what's the latest? >> there is no more rescue effort underway in baltimore which ended around 7:30 p.m. when the coast guard to the six individuals construction workers are presumed to be dead at this point. this is a recovery operation that began around 6:00 a.m. eastern time. we are for five hours into this now. the governor of maryland speaking to reporters saying right now his top priority is recovery providing closure to the families of those who have been affected by this tragedy. as you can see i'm sure conditions are not great. it is rainy and windy. there was a lot of debris in the water so this recovery effort is quite a treacherous one. it's not the only effort underway in baltimore. the ntsb on the scene planning to board the vessel as they conduct a thorough investigation into what happened on board leading up to it ultimately culminating in its collision with the key bridg

kailey leinz is on the ground.ad it was but how much worse it could have been. kailey: absolutely, there is this construction crew present on the bridge of the time d theali rented to a structural support beam. they are not searching for them right now but for recovery purposes. there was enough time from the mayday call of the ship where they experience distress and lost power and control of the vessel and hence the collision with the bridge. they were able to alert port authority soon enough that they stop further traffic from coming onto the bridge. it is likely that action was able to save some lives even though unfortunately, it seems according to officials that six of their lives are presumed to have been lost. the recovery effort is ongoing and then it will move forward into the investigative phase with the ntsb likely to board the vessel today. they have a 24 person team to investigate and it will be a matter of trying to get the ship out of the harbor and clear the debris from the ship but from the collaps

steel shares of the pittsburgh-based company are extending losses today and kailey leinz joints me now d.c. let's talk about steel country, how important is it for president biden and frankly his competitors to also be targeting this space? kailey: incredibly, keeping in mind that pennsylvania specifically is a key battleground swing state in the selection has a large steel industry and a lot of steelworkers. the steelworkers union have come out against this deal and biden has been a very prounion president. he directly addressed steelworkers in the statement saying he told them i would have their backs and i meant it. it is about the politics of this fundamentally which is why we see this unusual move by a president coming out against the transaction like this. it's not exactly clear what daring the statement from president biden will have on the reveal already underway into the united states. at the treasury department, they would have the ability to block or approve this deal or have it amended national security grounds if they so choose. they've been looking into the nippon connect

katie: let's bring in bloomberg balance of power cohost kailey leinz live from baltimore. you have been there since yesterday. what is the latest on the ground? kailey: we are about six hours into a recovery effort that began at 6:00 a.m. eastern this morning. they are trying to recover the six individuals, construction workers on the bridge at the time it collapsed and fell into the water. they are trying to recover them in what wes moore is an effort to provide closure for those families. that is with the governor says is the top priority. conditions for this effort are not great. . it is pouring rain. it is windy. visibility is low. all of that is making the effort all the more difficult. not to mention the massive amounts of debris in the water because of the collapsed bridge and the shipping containers damaged when the collision happened. it is not just the first responders, those looking into the recovery effort working today. the national transportation safety board is on site ready to board the vessel as they conduct an investigation into what happened in the moment

kailey leinz is in d.c. with the details. >> they do aim to reduce the deficit by $3 trillion over the next decade but that is not say there is not a great deal of spending outlined in this proposal from the white house. 7.3 trillion dollars for fiscal year 2025, 1.7 trillion is domestic discretionary spending or discretionary spending overall when you add up defense and other programs, they're asking for $900 billion for defense-related programs and more than $600 billion for other discretionary programs. they want to offset that by raising more revenue, higher tax rates on companies and billionaires, the president is requesting that billionaires pay 25% in taxes and the corporate tax rate will go up to 28% and they want to tax more, the profits coming in from multinational companies raise that to 21% and quadrupled the tax company's pay for buying back stock. this budget does propose cutting taxes for middle and low income americans by 760 $5 billion over 10 years and it would fully restore the full child
