hewitt. >> this time i got data from kaiser in november. and they sent necessity -- me the premium and claim summaries. kaiser is fully insured and we talked in january about whether or not we wanted to consider taking risk and just what kind of renewal given the ruckus from last year we should anticipate. so this is a twofold presentation. one is, do i want to keep the temperament of possible taking risk and some board members are opposed and others lukewarm and others think it's a nice idea. that being said we are going to review the data briefly and i can give you my actuarial view of the trajectory of the data of what it implies of a fully in insured rate. so just to give you a sense of what we have. we have a premium built upon experience data, 100 percent experience rated for inpatient claims, outpatient claims and of the rx data is all supposedly specific to kaiser. where they have to have a big access charge which has been a lot of discussion if this meeting and other meetings at the other.cms. that is allocated not a specific basis

this is kaiser's approach. so generally they have had a book specific trend that's run approximately 7 percent. if you look at that and have to trend it forward and the materials i was provided they have cut their trend to 3.72 percent. so they are giving you a fully insured quote based on this data set and they have trended it, increased it 3.72 percent per year. i actually have and that's a book trend. that's kaiser's basic trend for this case and other cases of that size. it's a very low number. the argument has always been why do you apply across the board 7 percent trend when my utilitization is coming down. this addresses that. this is a positive thing. i have their case specific data. my colleague, mr. brigs and i ran that data through my regression models and i want to say that i can't match their number which would be coincidence because it's only specific to them. but i'm very close to their number. so my combined trend over the last 12 months is very similar to that. i think that their 3.72 is taking

and same thing in the employee lives enrolled in kaiser increased. we see this along all of our demographic subsets that is consistent. as we look at employees on the next slide bottom right where we break it out again by kaiser blue shield city plan. the average age of our employees and their dependents is 36.71. blue shield and city plan are both average age greater in those plans than what our overall average is. bottom left our breakout by gender. when we look at all of the employees and their dependents across all of our employer groups it's 49 percent male and 51 percent female split. we can see for kaiser and blue shield, a lot of those numbers remain consistent across the various employers. city plan we definitely see some variability in that. and a little bit with blue shield for unified school district. the 61 percent female, 39 percent male. age span breakout, again pretty consistent with the demographics where employees are living, again san francisco. i will move to high level comments on retiree lives. turn it upward. that increased by
