review and approve kaiser permanente senior advantage medicare fully insured retiree rates and premium contributions for california. presented by mike clark from aon. >> mike clark, aon. we're going to present the kpsa fully retiree rates fort 2020 plan year. page 2, outlines the recommendation that i'll talk you through in this document. that we recommend adoption of the rate cards, display them as material that are based on the rate of $365.76 per member per month. which would be a 12.2% increase from 2019. this does include provision for a new recommended transportation benefit rider that i'll talk through shortly. so i know that our representative from kaiser permanente talked through the cms reconciliation process. this illustrates the transition of the 2019 rate, $325.89 per member per month to the $365.76 and all of the elements that play into that. i will note that of the increase, only 2% is underwriting trends. so underlying experience of the plan is increasing only at 2% rate, very favorable to national trends. the other elements of the increase are due to the reconciliation

health giant kaiser permanente, oakland's largest employer, is building a new national headquarters in the city's uptown neighborhood on telegraph avenue across from the paramount theater. the plan also consolidates staff now spread across seven downtown office buildings into one brand new national and regional headquarters. >>> tonight a bitter battle boiling over american airlines and its mechanics union. the two have been at odds over contract negotiations. the airline has accused the union of causing delays and cancellations by slowing down flight operations. union leaders even warned their families not to fly with the airline over safety concerns. in the midst of chaos, one mechanics worker captured a heated argument with an airline manager. this happened over the weekend at chicago's o'hare. the worker says the manager exploded when he wrote up a safety issue on a plane. >> i trusted you. >> i did my job. >> you did not do your job. if you did your job, you'd fix these [ bleep ]. >> he's angry because i wrote up a safety issue and he didn't want the airplane to not go flying. >>

sadly, even though we have kais kaiser permanente, medical coverage, they don't cover the type of treatment she needs. it's like because the treatment they were willing to cover didn't work and she just got worse and errors and worse and worse, they did more harm than good in some ways. they weren't appropriate. it's really sad that, even with insurance, it's inadequate. the proper care needs to be available to each patient, because like you were saying, you know, it's not one size fits all. all the medicines they threw at her weren't right. she really needed different types of therapies. like i said, we're paying out of pocket, she's doing well now, but like i said, we're really in debt pay fog all of it. it's worth it, you know, because she's our daughter, we love her, and it's worth it, but other families, they don't have that option. >> jody, thanks for sharing yours and her story as well. i'll give you the final two minutes here. >> jody, thank you for sharing that. i admire your dedication to your daughter. i think one of the things it points out is look how much not only families are
