national parks, monuments and military training centers could all close earlier today 75,000 kaiser permanente workers threatened to go on strike if a bargaining deal is not reached by september 30th. after today's bargaining meeting, kaiser health care workers issued a ten day unfair labor practice strike notice against kaiser executives. now, if a strike does happen, it would take place across multiple states, including california, on oregon and washington, and it would be the largest health care strike in us history. another historic strike in the us. the united auto workers strike expanded today to stellantis and general motors. the total number of workers on strike is now more than 18,000. uaw president sean fein says potential breakthroughs include job security after layoffs, as well as bringing back a cost of living allowance. the union is demanding a 32 hour workweek. traditional pensions and wage increases over 35. thousands of workers have been laid off in response to the strike, so the union will now dip into its strike fund. this will send $500 a week to each member on strike. the

kaiser permanente. for all that is you. >> the city of oakland is still without a police chief over 8 months since mayor sheng thao fired, then chief leronne armstrong. they've been critical of the mayor for taking so long to find his replacement. we talked to her today. she told us she has to wait for the police commission to make the recommendations to her before she can hire anyone. and for the first time she expressed her frustration with that process and talked about what she might have to do. things don't change soon. >> i'm frustrated. i'm frustrated that the process is taking a very long. and so if this doesn't actually come to fruition so that we can get our chief, then i will be forced. i will be forced to actually activate my executive powers around in a a state of emergency to ensure that we do get a chief in a timely manner. if if the police commission do its job. however, i do want to make sure that they get to follow the rule of the charter. but this is taking way too long at this point.
