joined here in the studio by doctor han lee, neurological and movement disorder specialist with kaiser permanenteere in the east bay. doctor, thank you for the time. really, really appreciate it. i want to start by asking you about that, that stat that we just mentioned there off the top, the number of people dying from alzheimer's is on the rise in this country. why do we think that is? >> well, you know, people are living longer. we are. this is kind of an unprecedented age where we're able to treat a lot of patients early on in their life. but then as people age and these things start to accumulate in the brain, we're not able to intervene. and so we succumb to these types of diseases like alzheimer's disease. >> all right. that's what it's all about. it's all about intervening. so obviously, as we mentioned and we talk about over and over, there is no cure for alzheimer's. but but there are effective treatment options. what what are the most effective effective options that we have at this moment? >> this is a really optimistic time. there are exponential rate of development of drugs. we focu

don seung, who is a psychiatrist and doctor matt sills, who is a psychologist both with kaiser permanente. thanks for being here to talk about this important topic. first of all, explain what is cannabis induced psychosis and how big a problem is it? >> right. so cannabis induced psychosis. so psychosis refers to a set of symptoms where people can experience hallucinations. so hearing things or seeing things that aren't there, paranoid thoughts or beliefs and disorganized thinking. and cannabis can induce these symptoms in some people. and sometimes they will go away when the cannabis use stops. but for some people they will persist and unfortunately lead to an increased risk of developing schizophrenia. >> how did you start doing research on this? what prompted it? >> so we were seeing we've been seeing a lot more people in the emergency room, in the hospitals, in our clinics who've been having these symptoms and these disorders. and so it's been a serious concern for us, for sure. >> how big a problem is this? do you know, like, how many more patients you've been seeing and has it is it
